Marriott Bonvoy Customer Service Response Regarding Adding Lifetime Years In 2021

A LoyaltyLobby reader forwarded us an email that they had received from the Marriott Bonvoy internet customer service that contradicts the information that we received from the Marriott spokesperson.

Le Meridien Ho Chi Minh City

The internal information we received yesterday indicated that the lifetime year would have been already added in 2020, and the 2021 one would be added in 2022. The customer service claims that these years are added in July or August this year.

Here’s the message that a reader received from Marriott Bonvoy customer service:

Thank you for contacting Marriott Bonvoy™ regarding Lifetime Elite status.

The Lifetime Elite status will update sometime in July or August 2021.  We do not have an exact date as of yet. Your Lifetime years will update then.

Members who meet the requirements may earn and enjoy Marriott Bonvoy™ Lifetime Elite status. When you have lifetime Elite status, you will never be downgraded below that status, regardless of the number of nights that you stay per year.  Also, at this time, Lifetime Elite status will keep your points from expiring.

Lifetime Platinum Elite status is offered after both of the following qualifications are met:

* 600 Elite nights over the history of the Marriott Bonvoy™ account
* 10 years spent at Platinum Elite status

For Lifetime Gold Elite, the Elite night requirement is 400 nights with seven years at Gold Elite status.

For Lifetime Silver Elite, the Elite night requirement is 250 nights with five years of Silver Elite status.

There is no way to request Lifetime Elite status unless all the qualifications have been met.

Please note, once you achieve Lifetime Elite status, it will not be reflected on the account in our systems until you fail to meet the requirements of an equivalent or higher Elite status.  For example, if your account status is Platinum Elite, and you achieve Lifetime Gold Elite status, your account will continue to reflect Platinum Elite unless you fail to meet the requirements to renew the Platinum Elite status.

If you have additional questions, I will be happy to assist you further.

In closing, I would like to thank you again for being our guest and a valued member of Marriott Bonvoy™.

Best Regards,

Margaret O.

Here’s the information we received from Marriott

• 2020 Tenure Year:

During July 2020, when we extended the Elite Status that Members earned in 2019 until February 2022 due to Covid-19, Members also received their 2020 tenure year of Elite status at that time. During early 2022, the year of Elite status for 2021 will be applied to Member’s Account. (If the Member achieves a higher Elite level during 2021, the new higher level year of tenure will be added at the time of achievement.

The 2020 year should have been added to the tally already in 2019, and 2021 will be in early 2022. There should be no change to the lifetime years in 2021.

Conclusion

For me, it is unclear whether these lifetime years have been added or not, and Marriott’s communication is unclear.

Most readers commenting yesterday said that theirs were not added, while few said theirs were in 2020.

I have not followed my lifetime progress after receiving the lifetime Titanium status when the Marriott Rewards and SPG programs were merged.
