The Sofitel Legend Santa Clara is a hotel with lost of history. It occupies a 17th century cloistered convent in Cartagena’s old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The tales and legends surround this building inspired Nobel laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez to write Of Love and Other Demons. After its expropriation by the Colombian government in 1861, the building was used as a prison, a leprosarium, and finally as the city’s largest hospital until the mid 1970s. In the mid 1980s restoration works started and it opened as the Hotel Santa Clara in 1994. Now the property is under the Sofitel Legend portfolio and it offers 122 rooms and 17 suites.
First, let’s take a look at the official photo set and description from the hotel website:
43m²/463ft, located in the 17th Century Colonial Area, overlooking the Historic Center, Sofitel MyBed, Shower, Hermès Bathroom Amenities, LCD TV, BOSE SoundDock, Home Theater, Butler Service.
Here is our video review and commentary on this suite:
The Sofitel Legend Santa Clara is, by far, the best luxury property in Cartagena. This suite in the 17th century building (the property has another wing built in the 19th century) is charming, luxurious and still manages to keep the allure of the history of those old walls and ceilings. Did you see that welcome amenity overboard?
This room sells for about $450++/night, which would be about 20,000 Accor ALL points (2,000 points = 40€).
