Marriott and Uber have launched a partnership that allows Bonvoy members to earn points for food deliveries and premium rides in the United States.

Marriott Bonvoy members earn 6 points per USD for food deliveries at hotels, two points for deliveries at other addresses or pick-ups, and three points per USD for premium rides. You can earn a one-time bonus of 2,000 points for linking your accounts and have a qualifying activity by May 31, 2021.

You can link your Marriott and Uber accounts here.

Here’s what you can earn after inkling your accounts:

  • SIX Marriott Bonvoy points for each order delivered to Marriott hotels in the United States and two points for deliveries elsewhere, including pick-ups
  • THREE Marriott Bonvoy points on Uber XL, Uber SUV, Comfort, and Black rides in the United States.

Note that your Uber account must be under a US phone number to take advantage of this offer. The Uber Eats delivery must be $25 or more after promotions and discounts and excluding taxes, fees, and tips. You won’t earn points for excluding taxes, fees, and gratuities.

Here’s a video from Marriott on how to link them:

And here from Uber how to do it:

Here’s the announcement from Marriott:

Marriott Bonvoy™ and Uber Team Up for First of Its Kind Collaboration Enabling Members to Earn Points on Both Food Delivery and Rides

As travel resumes, members can link accounts to start earning Marriott Bonvoy points toward free nights at hotels and home rentals around the world

Starting today, members of Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott International’s (NASDAQ: MAR) award-winning travel program and marketplace, can earn points toward free nights at the company’s extraordinary portfolio of hotels and premium and luxury home rentals when ordering food delivery on Uber Eats and requesting select Uber rides (NYSE: UBER).

Available across the United States, Marriott Bonvoy members who link their Marriott Bonvoy and Uber accounts in the Uber app will automatically start earning points on all qualifying transactions. Members will be able to earn up to six points per dollar spent on Uber Eats delivery with a minimum $25 basket and three points per dollar spent on Uber XL, Comfort and Black rides. For a limited time, members who link their accounts and have at least one qualifying transaction by May 31 will earn an extra 2,000 Marriott Bonvoy bonus points.

“We are continuing to see our members return to travel and are excited to give them more opportunities to earn points toward free nights through Uber rides and Uber Eats,” said David Flueck, Senior Vice President Global Loyalty, Marriott International. “This tremendous relationship with Uber reflects our goal to engage members and enable them to earn and redeem points whether traveling or through everyday activities at home.”

Members can earn points in the following ways:

  • Six Marriott Bonvoy points per dollar spent on Uber Eats deliveries to hotels operating under Marriott brands in the United States with a minimum $25 basket, and two Marriott Bonvoy points per dollar spent on non-hotel deliveries and food pick-ups in the United States with a minimum $25 basket.
  • Three Marriott Bonvoy points per dollar spent on Uber XL, Comfort and Black rides across the United States.

“We are thrilled to team up with Marriott Bonvoy to help our shared customers turn their stay-at-home habits into their next dream vacation,” said Jennifer Vescio, Global Head of Business Development, Uber. “By quickly linking your Uber and Marriott Bonvoy accounts, you’re one step closer to your next trip when ordering from your favorite local spots on Uber Eats or hopping in a ride.”

To link accounts, open the Uber app and tap the menu on the top left corner. Tap ‘Settings,’ and scroll down to tap ‘Marriott Bonvoy’ under the Rewards section. Tap ‘Link Account’ and then log into your Marriott Bonvoy account. Once accounts are linked, users can start earning points on qualifying Uber Eats orders and qualifying rides. Points balances can be viewed on Marriott Bonvoy account profiles.

Conclusion

It is nice to earn Marriott Bonvoy points + any credit card incentives, and bonus points they may offer for Uber Eats deliveries and premium rides in the United States (you can essentially double-dip).

I find it partially counterproductive that Marriott incentives Bonvoy members not to use hotel F&B outlets by offering points for food deliveries from outside outlets.

The partnership that the SPG and Uber had applied to all types of rides globally, and you earned more Starpoints on days when you stayed at one of their hotels. There was a yearly cap on the number of points that you could earn.

Here are the terms and conditions from Uber:

To participate in the Marriott Uber loyalty initiative, you must link your Marriott Bonvoy™ account to your Uber account associated with a U.S. phone number. Once you link your accounts, you can earn Marriott Bonvoy Points on Qualifying Transactions. A “Qualifying Transaction” means (i) a ride taken with Uber XL, Uber Black, Uber SUV or Uber Comfort; or (ii) an order placed through Uber Eats in an amount of $25 U.S. dollars or more after the calculation of any applicable promotions or discounts (excluding taxes, fees, and tips), in each case, that occurs in the United States. Marriott Bonvoy Points earned for Qualifying Transactions will be based on U.S. dollars spent after promotions and discounts, excluding taxes, fees, and tips. By linking your account, you’re allowing Uber to share your points details with Marriott Bonvoy. If you no longer wish to participate in this offer, you may unlink your account at any time in the Uber app.

After you link your Marriott Bonvoy account to your Uber account, for all Qualifying Transactions you will receive (as applicable): (i) 3 Marriott Bonvoy Points for each dollar spent after promotions and discounts, excluding taxes, fees, and tips on Uber XL, Uber Black, Uber SUV and Uber Comfort rides, (ii) 6 Marriott Bonvoy Points for each dollar spent after promotions and discounts, excluding taxes, fees, and tipson orders made using Uber Eats delivered to Marriott International properties (excluding Homes & Villas by Marriott International), and (iii) 2 Marriott Bonvoy Points for each dollar spent on after promotions and discounts, excluding taxes, fees, and tips all other orders made using Uber Eats.

In addition to these terms, you are subject to any terms and conditions shown upon enrollment and the Marriott Bonvoy Program Rules [hyperlink]. Uber and Marriott International reserve the right to change the number of Marriott Bonvoy Points that you may earn and the activities for which you may earn Marriott Bonvoy Points. Uber or Marriott International may also unlink accounts as a result of termination or suspension of the Marriott Uber loyalty initiative, suspected fraud, or any changes in eligibility. Terms and conditions are subject to change.
