IHG Rewards has decided to further waive the points expiry through December 31, 2021.
Also, free night certificates earned from cobranded credit cards in the US and UK in 2020 won’t expire before December 31st.

Here’s a note that we received from the IHG spokesperson:
IHG Rewards is extending our points expiration until December 31, 2021 for Club members. Points never expire for all members with Elite status (Gold, Platinum and Spire).
Additionally, Credit Card Anniversary Night Certificates issued in 2020 have been extended to expire no earlier than December 31, 2021. Unused Free Night Certificates with an August 31, 2021 expiration date have been extended to December 31, 2021. This update applies to the US & UK cards only.
Conclusion
IHG Rewards has not extended other free night certificates earned from Ambassador and other promotions but now has those that were acquired from affiliated credit cards in the US and UK.
It is good that the points expiry has further been waived through the end of 2021. Travel has been very challenging for an extended period in many markets.
