American Express (U.S.) has uploaded new Amex Offers and it once again includes Marriott Hotels where this time a US$200 at participating hotels will trigger a $40 refund to the card account.
This offer is valid for both charge cards as well as the Marriott co-branded credit cards issued by Amex USA and good for Marriott hotel purchases in the U.S. and U.S. territories, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
The purchase of gift cards is excluded under this offer, the refund will be applied for hotel purchases only but they don’t have to be in a single transaction, meaning you can break up the $200 spend requirement for this offer through July 31, 2021 (transaction date).

For some reason I didn’t see it under my Amex Bonvoy card. There are reports of others seeing it under their own account though. My friend has one under her Brilliant Card account.
A total of $40 back is a nice 20% discount but unfortunately this is only valid for in the U.S. and U.S. territories, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. I wish they’d offer this for worldwide purchases.
As far as Amex is concerned they are also running a transfer promotion from Membership Rewards to Marriott Bonvoy at the moment, offering a 40% bonus for points transfers until June 15, 2021.
I really like these Amex offers that can provide substantial savings over the year and somewhat mitigate your annual that way. Key is always to not be blinded by the marketing side of it and not spend more money on unnecessary purchases than originally planned. In the case of hotel stays that shouldn’t be a problem, especially when you already hold the Marriott Card.
Usually I come to a couple hundred dollars or ~ 15-20,000 Membership Rewards points per year which is good to compensate for the high annual fee and the inflexible airline credit of the Platinum Card.
