American Airlines has hinted that they would extend systemwide upgrades expiring this year, making this official yesterday. However, the expiry of evips has been pushed to July 31, 2022, already this month.

The airline is also waiving the expiry of AAdvantage miles through December 31, 2021. If you don’t have any activity, the miles will expire on January 1, 2022.

Conclusion

I am glad that American Airlines decided to extend the expiring systemwide upgrades and waive the mileage expiry through the end of 2021.

I am still not fully confident that the programs they have in place are enough to retain elite members who don’t live in the United States and markets where travel restrictions are still prevalent (thin of Asia).
