Airlines are trying to find an additional source of revenue after slowly recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic, and the heads at the Aer Lingus have come up with the craziest fee for passengers.
The European tickets include a free 10-kilo carry-on, but you now have to pay to take it on board, but you can check it for free and wait hours at the destination to see if the luggage was loaded.

A carry-on bag with priority boarding is included for some customers:
- Silver, Platinum and Concierge AerClub members. This applies to the member only and not travelling companions.
- Bookings made with Plus, Advantage and Aer Space fare types.
- The accompanying adult travelling with an infant.
- Customers connecting to/from an Aer Lingus transatlantic flight or a connecting flight with an interline partner.
All customers with a carry-on bag with priority boarding (either purchased or included) must check in online or via the App.
And the best part?
You don’t check in your FREE carry-on, and it is taken at the gate; a fee of 35 euros applies!
I believe that I have flown with Aer Lingus only once when British Airways flight to London was delayed, and they rebooked me on Aer Lingus, both owned by the Spanish company IAG.
It is hilarious that they now charge 35 euros for your free carry-on if you don’t check it or buy some priority service for an extra fee. Ridiculous!
