Lufthansa Group’s Very Confusing Mask Rules

A LoyaltyLobby reader sent us a photo of a cheat sheet that agents checking in Lufthansa, SWISS, and Austrian passengers have on hand in Keflavik airport in Iceland.

You would think that 18 months into this pandemic, at least European countries and airlines would have a standard mask policy in place, but alas, not.

  • Austrian has the strictest requirements in place; FFP2, KN95, or N95 could be difficult and expensive to acquire. In addition, surgical masks are NOT allowed.

  • Lufthansa allows surgical masks in addition to the FFP2, KN95, or N95, although they may be required for flights to/from Munich.

  • Swiss also allows Community masks, and I am not sure what they are because cloth masks are not allowed.

I have plenty of surgical masks with me in various bags just in case I drop the one I am wearing. I do not, however, have any of the masks required by Austrian. Let’s hope that they provide passengers with them if they travel to or from destinations where they are not common.
