Marriott Bonvoy has send emails to some members who are now eligible for a targeted DOUBLE UP promotion of double points on weekend stays through October 31, 2021 (registration required).
These targeted offers were adopted into Marriott Bonvoy from SPG, and they took some time off in 2020 but returned in August, and there have been several ones since.
Promotional offers sent to members usually vary in nature and type of bonus that can be collected, for example some members are offers a flat amount of points per stay and others simple get double points.

Marriott Bonvoy has sent out emails about these offers today, but you can always check if there is one available in your account by checking the Promotion Central in your Marriott account.
There are traditionally several versions of these targeted offers, from bonus points to free night certificates. These offers are valid for the month you sign up + the following three months, in this case until October 31, 2021.
Remember that only paid stays (not awards) count towards these bonus offers. You can combine targeted offers with global and property-specific ones.
There is really no rhyme as to how Marriott does their targeting for these promotions but I assume that the most lucrative ones go for members who haven’t stayed with Marriott for a while.
Marriott Bonvoy sometimes tries to reactivate members with such offers, in my case I had plenty of stays this year and just clocked in my 75th night two weeks ago so all I got are double points on stays that include a weekend night. This might in fact come in handy for when I return to Thailand in August/September and likely have to spend two weeks at a hotel to quarantine or hold out (Phuket).

*A “stay” is defined as one or more consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, regardless of checkin/checkout activity, on any points-eligible rate (“Qualifying Rate”).
