Air Canada Aeroplan Status Extension/Up Offers For Cobranded Credit Cardholders

Air Canada has launched a new offer for co-branded Aeroplan credit cardholders from the Canadian banks that allow members to get a status or up it by swiping the cards.

Members with no status can get the Aeroplan 25K tier, and those at 35K/50K/75K can up theirs, while Super Elite members will receive Status Qualifying Miles, Segment, and Dollars towards 2023 status.

Existing Cardholders:

We’re now excited to give members an offer that will turbo charge their status qualification with our Aeroplan Premium tier credit cards.  With this offer, Premium cardholders will be able to earn, step up a tier in 2022 or help them get ahead on their status for 2023.

Existing Premium Cardholders (members with the card on/before July 11, 2021):

Starting today, eligible existing primary cardholders who register will be able to reach status or jump up a tier more easily than ever through their everyday spend.

  • American Express®* Aeroplan® Reserve Card OR American Express®* Aeroplan® Business Reserve Cardholders: Register for this special offer and achieve 25K Elite Status when you spend $10,000 using your American Express®* Aeroplan® Reserve Card OR American Express®* Aeroplan® Business Reserve Card between July 1 and the required date*.  Aeroplan 25K, 35K, 50K, 75K spend $10,000 on the card between July 1 and the required date* and step up a tier.
  • TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege Cardholders: Register for this special offer and achieve 25K Elite Status when you spend $10,000 using your TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege. Aeroplan 25K, 35K, 50K, 75K spend $10,000 on the card by the required date* and step up a tier.
  • CIBC Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege Cardholders: Register for this special offer and achieve 25K Elite Status when you spend $10,000 using your CIBC Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege Card.  Aeroplan 25K, 35K, 50K, 75K spend $10,000 on the card the required date* and step up a tier.

Super Elite Status members qualifying for this offer will earn the following towards their 2023 status when they register and spend $10,000 by the required date*:

  • 25,000 Bonus Status Qualifying Miles
  • 25 Bonus Status Qualifying Segments, and
  • 3,000 Bonus Status Qualifying Dollars

*Variable date dependent on acquisition timing of the card.  If you acquired your card between January 1 and July 11, 2021, you have between July 1 and November 30, 2021, to spend $10,000.  If you acquired your card before January 1, 2021, you have between July 1 and October 15, 2021 to spend $10,000.

New Premium Cardholders:

We will also have a special status offer for new Aeroplan Premium cardholders.  Members who acquire an Aeroplan Premium card from American Express, TD, or CIBC between July 12 and October 1, 2021 and spend at least $10,000 by November 30, 2021 will earn one of the following:

  • Members who do not already status, will earn Aeroplan 25K Status for 2022.
  • Aeroplan 25K, 35K or 50K Status members will jump to the next tier for 2022.
  • Aeroplan 75K or Super Elite Status will earn 25,000 Bonus Status Qualifying Miles, 25 Bonus Status Qualifying Segments and $3,000 Bonus Status Qualifying Dollars to jump start their 2023 Status.

Conclusion

Air Canada is not the only airline that has now suddenly tied the status with the spend on the affiliated credit card when very few can travel and qualify under the usual rules.

But you can then always argue that what is the status worth when the destinations that one can travel are greatly restricted?
