Virgin Atlantic Flying Club launched a new sale of Virgin Points, now separate currency among all Virgin-affiliated companies, with up to a 70% bonus that is valid through August 14, 2021, and we covered this yesterday.
A LoyaltyLobby reader sent us a note that you can save a lot on the purchase if you have access to the GBP pricing instead of the USD one. You can find the difference below.
You can access this offer on Virgin Atlantic’s website here.
Here’s a note that a reader sent us:
The Virgin Atlantic Point Sale is cheaper when purchased in pound sterling. I just bought 150,000 points plus bonus of 105,000 points totalling 255,000 points at a total cost of £2,265. This works out at about £8 for every 1000 points. Buying in USD is about 60% more expensive because of the high exchange rate used by Virgin Atlantic.
So, the reader purchased 255,000 Virgin Points for £2,265 that converts to $3,120. The price of a point when purchased in GBP and converted to USD is 1.22 cents each that is 24% less than if purchased in USD outright.
BELOW IS THE PIECE WE PUBLISHED YESTERDAY
Here’s the bonus schedule:
The bonus is dependent on how many points you purchase. For example, you can get the maximum bonus when buying 100,000 to 150,000 points.
Here’s the price at 70% bonus:
The price of a Virgin Atlantic – Virgin Point under this sale is 1.6 US cents each.
There are some very reasonable Virgin Atlantic partner awards, like the ANA one I redeemed last year (read more here).
Interestingly, the price in GBP is so much more reasonable than in USD, where my account is placed. However, I wonder how much the Virgin Points cost for members in the Euro area?
I guess that one can temporarily move their account to the UK and then purchase the miles under the UK price in pounds.
Here are the terms and conditions of this promotion:
