A LoyaltyLobby reader sent us a comment about a rather unpleasant experience with Accor and BNP Paribas regarding their co-branded credit card. I wondered if others have had success with this product?
You can access the cards here.
Here’s the email from a reader:
I wanted to share my recent (bad) experience with the brand Accor All Visa card as you recently wrote an article about it.
Subscribing through the Accor Pay is the only way to get the card. It takes only 5 minutes to send the documents and take the picture, secure the account with FaceID on iPhone etc.
I did it on a weekend and thought it would be validated on Monday but the follow up was deleted from the app for no reason. I called customer service 3 times over a week with no call back. I made another subscription a few days later with the assistance of a representative over the phone, this time it was validated immediately. The physical card would arrive within 10 days but the virtual card is available immediately.
I tried an online payment which worked fine.
But for a second payment it was declined. I called again and they gave me no reason. I was told that someone would call me back on the same day to solve the problem. No one called. The next day i cancelled my account.
The service is Accor branded but fully managed by BNP Paribas which the largest bank in France and one of the largest in Europe but the team and resources allocated to Accor Pay / Accor VISA cards are simply not worth the reputation of both companies. In France none of them ever communicated about the launch of these cards. I was aware of it because some Accor employees posted their cards on Linkedin so i knew it was available.
Compared to my Air France American Express card that i owned for the past 10 years, the Accor VISA card was a very frustrating experience.
Accor announced last year that they were working on a deal with BNP Paribas to issue co-branded cards:
Then they were launched:
And opened for applications:
There could be teething issues with BNP Paribas and Accor with the launch of these cards, although you would think that a bank with this size would have things sorted out, considering all other cards they must have available for the French market?
Some other readers have commented on ridiculously low credit limits even for the most expensive cards that make them unusable to pay for charges at Accor-affiliated hotels.
Let’s hope that Accor and BNP Paribas can resolve these issues to make the process smoother for ALL members.
