Sandbox Tourists who are currently in Phuket and are looking for a way to get to Bangkok now the option to avail themselves to a one time “Special Flight” by Thai Smile Airways operating on August 14, 2021.
This particular flight WE8087 will depart Phuket at 14.30 Hrs. and arrive in Bangkok at 16.00 Hrs, the ticket price is 4,300 Baht per person all inclusive.
Payment for this flight must be made by 12.00 Hrs. on 12 August, 2021 however this is first come first served and I’d imagine there to be ample demand given that all other airlines have ceased operation to/from Phuket (with the exception of NOK Air to U-Tapao Airport near Pattaya).
This connection was announced by TAT on their website today:
This flight is not bookable via the website and has to be booked via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Aside from the above one-way flight from Phuket to Bangkok, the airline has temporarily suspended domestic flight services from 4-19 August, 2021.
Affected passengers can request a flight date or route change 4 hours prior to the original departure time, or request a full refund in the form of an EMD credit in which passengers can retain the value of their fare in a credit account for future travel (expires 365 days after the EMD is approved).
Interestingly Thai Smile is selling regular flights between Phuket and Bangkok again from August 20th:
There is however no guarantee that these flights will actually operate as sold. Should Thai Smile or the Government decide to extend their restrictions on Phuket and domestic travel in general then it’s very well possible that these flights will be cancelled again.
The one time shuttle is a great solution for people to go back to the mainland again following their 14 days semi-quarantine in Phuket as part of the Sandbox program. It has always been advertised that tourists can go to other parts of the country after this, leaving them now stranded without a flight to anywhere wouldn’t be exactly great to say the least.
Pricing of 4,300 Baht per person including tax is actually rather fair. Keep in mind the plane has to come to Phuket empty to pick up the passengers (unless they have one sitting there) and the pre-pandemic price has always been around 2200 THB +/- for this route. People including myself have gotten spoiled by the cheap fares.
If you need to travel between Phuket and Bangkok following the completion of your 14 day Sandbox period you can avail yourself to this offer.
There are no published details about what kind of documents are requested to book this flight and what documents are being checked at the airport when trying to fly to Bangkok in case any non-Sandbox person thinks about getting in on this option.
