ANA Mileage Club has updated their website with an offer concerning an extension campaign which results in a Sky Coins and Mileage expiration waiver through March 31, 2022.
Members have to register their account in order to be eligible for this extension otherwise their points will expire if they have prior expiration dates.
So far ANA has not sent out any specific emails about this policy, I’ve seen it by coincidence on the website while looking around for something else.
You can access the respective website here to register your account and save your miles.
Even if you register, the miles and ANA SKY COINS will expire temporarily on their original expiry dates. However, you will then accrue the same amount of miles and ANA SKY COINS with a new expiration date of March 31, 2022.
The time at which you accrue the miles/ANA SKY COINS will vary depending on when you register. For details on re-accrual timing, please see Re-Accrual Timing.
Registration is easy enough, it’s basically just a click.
Those who have already registered for the previous extension to September 30, 2021 appear to have been automatically registered, at least I got message that I’m already registered despite doing nothing:
It took ANA quite some time to come up with this and many members were already worried. In my case I had a batch of 5xxx miles expiring in October and decided to redeem them for a Round The World Award that I’m currently in the middle of.
Still strange why ANA wouldn’t just email people that this has been rolled out!?
Conclusion
ANA has finally come out to allow members to extend their miles but a registration is required unless you have registered for the first round already. I feel like ANA Mileage Club – as much as I love their awards and ANA itself – is rather complicated when it comes to a customer-centric approach.
This could have been handled very simple by announcing an automatic extension and just doing it for everybody without taking action manually. Well as I learned over many years, nothing is ever simple in Japan. There is always some form to fill in and an extra step for someone to look over.
