Lufthansa just re-opened the First Class Terminal on September 1 but the same time decided to close all First Class Lounges in the main terminal, only a small “First Class Area” has been set up in the Senator Lounge, Concourse B.
This will prove a huge inconvenience and devaluation for First Class passengers who transit in Frankfurt as well as takes away First Class Lounge access for Amex Centurion cardholders as well.
It’s hard to understand what Lufthansa is doing in Frankfurt these days. They reopen the First Class Terminal with lots of bells and whistles, then they lock up all of the First Class lounges inside Terminal 1 which LH uses at FRA.
You can access the Lufthansa website and their lounge services section here.
Essentially the only customers who now have access to First Class ground services are those passengers originating from Frankfurt and who proceed directly to the FCT.
All other passengers – incoming or outgoing First Class / HON Circle customers – have to leave the Terminal entirely and walk over to the First Class Terminal.
Alternative they can just use the Senator Lounge where Lufthansa apparently set up something they call the “First Class Area” within the B Concourse:
So First Class passengers and LH HON Circle members are now being directed to the Senator Lounges or told to (literally) take a hike over to the FCT.
Here the two announcements that were supposedly positive for First Class passengers in Frankfurt:
The cooperation between American Express and Lufthansa is now useless for Centurion Card holders who were previously able to use the First Class Lounge while holding a Business Class ticket.
Is it really a service improvement to exchange the lounges at the terminal for the FCT which primarily pleases local audience and gave them some PR?
Not like there is a lot of First Class flying these days anyway but I can imagine people aren’t too happy if they end up booking First Class and then have to leave the bowels of the monster which is Frankfurt Airport just to get to a true First Lounge.
While Lufthansa has reopened their First Class Terminal in Frankfurt all of their First Class Lounge in the main terminal are now shut with customers being directed to Senator Lounges including the SEN Lounge in Concourse B (T1) where Lufthansa has apparently set up a “First Class Area” for them.
There doesn’t seem to be a lot of structure in the airlines planning at their largest hub. The airport terminal itself is in shambles with passengers having to walk sometimes several KM from one end to the other (2.15km last month from gate to baggage belt when I arrived last month). Now the lounges. I don’t see too many positive things Frankfurt as well as Lufthansa have going for themselves these days.
