Marriott has had Elite Benefit Guarantees in place for decades that spell out what compensation is due if a property fails to provide select benefits.
These Elite Benefit Guarantees survived the Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest merger but have now been made slightly less valuable.

Marriott Elite Benefit Guarantee Changes September 6, 2021:
ULTIMATE RESERVATION GUARANTEE
Guest compensation for stays at Ritz-Carlton and St. Regis brands now only apply for Titanium and Ambassador members. Previously, Platinum members were also eligible.
GUARANTEED ROOM TYPE
Marriott clarifies that the guaranteed room type is not available at Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, EDITION, Marriott Vacation Club, Marriott Grand Residence Club, Design HotelsTM, and Vistana brands. These were previously included either but not spelled out.
Marriott also cleaned up the language in some of the other guarantees, but there were no apparent benefit changes, as is the case above with the room type.
The Ultimate Reservation Guarantee is devalued for walked Platinum members that are no longer eligible for cash & points compensation at St. Regist and Ritz-Carlton hotels.
