Today marks the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks that downed the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in NYC and saw two more planes crash, resulting in thousands of victims on that tragic day.
On that day the world changed forever in many aspects as security was beefed up worldwide, wars were started and the attacks also marked the beginning of the surveillance state as we know it.
Those of us who remember how travel was before 9/11 will look back on these days with warm memories and think about being able to travel in ways that aren’t possible anymore.
You could go all the way to the gate without a boarding pass to see loved ones off, go to the lounge using your memberships, the reserve time needed for airport procedures was minimal.
All this went away that day together with many other freedoms and most importantly, many lives, that day and in the years that followed.
