Lufthansa Miles & More has partnered with Centogene, a company that conducts Covid-19 Antigen / PCR Tests to pre-book a testing appointment and earn 10 miles per Euro/CHF in the process.
Centogene has plenty of locations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland including at the major airports where passengers can get themselves tested for a (sometimes hefty) fee.
These Covid Antigen / PCR tests have really become a nuisance and an expensive one at that but at least they open the door to regular travel again and for the time being we have to take it if necessary.
I haven’t done as many of these tests as I haven’t done a lot of international travel except for my current RTW that will come to a close by the end of this week when returning to Thailand via the Phuket Sandbox.
Since this requires a series of PCR Tests with the first being conducted prior to departure I looked around and found that the Centogene at Frankfurt Airport has a partnership with Lufthansa Miles&More.
You can access their site here with the explanation of the campaign:
PCR tests and antigen tests are available at the test centres of our participating partners. These tests show whether an acute infection with the virus is present and, consequently, that there is a risk of infecting other people in close proximity to you.
The offer is available to you at the participating test centres at Berlin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, Cologne or Zurich airports.
As a Miles & More member, you earn 10 award miles for every 1 euro/CHF spent on the test, which is subject to a fee. You can earn a maximum of 1,000 award miles per test. The test can only be booked online at miles-and-more.com/test.
So essentially Miles&More members earn 10 miles per Euro for these tests. Fair enough, better than nothing.
If you have a look through their “menu” they offer a range of different services but at their stationary testing center at the airport as well as a drive through counter next to Frankfurt Airport:
This is a pretty wide range of services and time frames to return the result. I think in my case I’m going for the 12 hours and stay at the Airport Sheraton/Marriott rather than paying a high surcharge for a 35-75 Minute Result Test. That’s a complete waste of money, I rather invest the 100-200 EUR difference in a hotel stay (85 EUR/night).
The 89 Euro Test would give me 890 miles in return which I’d value ~ 14 Euro when used properly.
As John recently wrote some countries such as the Netherlands offer tests for free including the PCR tests that are usually quite costly:
Unfortunately no such option is offered in Germany so I’ll have to pay prior to my departure to Phuket this week.
Conclusion
You can now earn Miles&More Tests for your Covid Tests at various locations offered through the Miles&More Centogene partner portal.
In the very least it gives you a tiny little kickback for these rather expensive tests which can make quite a dent in your travel wallet depending how often you fly these days.
