Argentina on Tuesday announced relaxed travel rules for the country that has been mostly closed for non-citizen/resident arrivals from March 2020.
Some of the rules were relaxed as of yesterday. Visitors from neighboring countries are allowed from October 1 and elsewhere on November 1, 2021.
September 21, 2021:
Argentinians, residents, and foreigners (coming to work in the country) who are fully vaccinated no longer need to quarantine upon arrival. They need to have a negative PCR-RT test.
October 1, 2021:
Fully vaccinated visitors from neighboring countries would be allowed to enter with a negative PCR-RT test.
November 1, 2021:
Argentina would allow all international visitors enter who have been fully vaccinated and have a negative PCR-RT test.
The vaccination in all cases must have been completed at a minimum of 14 days before arrival. If the visitor doesn’t have a negative PCR-RT test result, they need to undergo a rapid antigen test at the airport. All visitors would be required to have a PCR-RT test between days 5 and 7 in the country.
Argentina would also allow those to enter who refuse to prove their vaccination status or have not been fully vaccinated, including children. They, however, need to self-isolate for a week and go through PCR-RT at the end.
There could be limits placed on international visitors and their number by the regional governments in Argentina.
Covid-19 Situation in Argentina:
The number of daily cases has collapsed from the May & June figures.
The daily deaths are roughly one-quarter what they were just three months ago.
Roughly half of the population is fully vaccinated.
Conclusion
The rules to enter Argentina are still a bit fuzzy, and I am sure they will be clarified by November 1, 2021.
I wish that we could soon drop these pre-departure PCR-RT tests for fully vaccinated visitors and replace them with rapid antigen tests or no tests at all. There is some nugget of information that Argentina wouldn’t require one from fully vaccinated once the country’s fully jabbed rate exceeds 50%.
I planned to visit Argentina last year on an LH ticket but had to change the departure to Sao Paulo. So perhaps I get to revisit the country later this year when I am in Latin America or early 2022.
