A list has surfaced on a Thai media site, outlining 20 nationalities (origins?) of travelers to be eligible to enter Thailand in the near future without the currently mandatory quarantine/sandbox confinement.
As it’s well known by now the country is planning to open up to travelers from certain “low risk” countries to visit Thailand without tough restrictions from November 1st as long as they’re fully vaccinated.
UPDATE: The official list was published on October 21st with a total of 46 countries, many of which vary from this list that surfaced earlier this week.
It’s unclear how this list came into the public domain or who compiled it as there wasn’t a definitive statement from the government during the last cabinet meeting or even an expansion of the previous list of 5 eligible countries.
A reader forwarded me an image that was published on SMARTSME:
According to the list, eligible countries are:
- United States
- United Kingdom
- China and Hong Kong
- South Korea
- United Arab Emirates
Again I’d like to emphasize that I haven’t seen this list anywhere else other than on this website and very little context was provided. The origin of this list or it’s authenticity is unclear as are certain provisions of what these country designations would mean.
How about permanent residents in aforementioned countries who carry a passport with a different nationality? Would their passport render them ineligible irrespective of their country of residence? That would make very little sense and affect a large number of people complicating a bad situation even more.
At the same time I dare to say that this doesn’t make much sense either. There are a couple countries from Europe on there but others aren’t. Likewise Canada isn’t on the list but the United States are.
Here is my article from last week about the original announcement from the Prime Minister:
Things can change by the hour in Thailand as far as policy making goes so I’d urge caution when planning holidays and booking tickets. Wait until things are official!
We found a list from a Thai media site that has a total of 20 countries (21 if you count China and HK separate) which would be eligible for future quarantine free entry into Thailand for vaccinated visitors.
This appears to be a leak of some sort. I’m not familiar with the website and I don’t speak Thai plus there was very little context given. The most this serves as is an indicator of who might be eligible to go. Should this really come to fruition in this way I feel it isn’t comprehensive enough and there are lots of kinks to even out.
