As Qantas is preparing to resume regular operations again the airline has just made a lot of award seats available for booking, both for domestic and international travel.
Members of Qantas Frequent Flyer are able to book most of these under Classic Awards while those who hold miles from other oneWorld partners are able to find seats as well (availability varies by program).
Australia is about to open their borders again, making it possible for their citizens to once again leave the country without prior approval from the Dear Leader (Australian Government / PM).
According to the Executive Traveller Qantas says it will unlock “up to 50% more reward seat availability on Qantas international, trans-Tasman and popular domestic routes until the end of 2022” from 7am Tuesday October 19, with those seats falling into the Classic Flight Reward category.
Qantas has been bullish for months pushing for a country reopening and even announcing routings such as regular flights to Vancouver and plans to return the A380 to the skies by mid 2022.
While this extra availability mostly concerns the in-house Qantas Frequent Flyer (QFF) program, not classifying awards as peak means a higher likelihood for them of showing up on partner programs as well.
Booking with miles has many advantages, for one they are flexible and easy to change but most programs also offer a very good cancellation policy should something go wrong again. Refunds of mileage tickets are usually fast, at least you don’t have thousands of dollars in limbo for months when you deal with award reservations.
Ahead of the countries reopening Qantas added numerous flights and award availability to their schedule that can be booked effective today.
Those with a solid or at least sufficient mileage balance might do very well looking what’s available and plan accordingly. Availability usually varies between Qantas own QFF program and that of partners. Keep in mind that Qantas is still waiving all change or cancellation fees for international Classic Flight Reward reservations with travel through 31st December 2022, as long as the booking is completed/ticketed by 28th February 2022.
