Flying Blue has informed members that the program is discontinuing physical cards and luggage tags from 2022.
These are not available even on request, like with some airlines, but members can pull their cards on the respective apps.
You can access Flying Blue here.
Remember that Flying Blue is not only the frequent flier program of Air France and KLM but includes the following airlines:
- Aircalin
- Air France
- Kenya Airways
- KLM
- Tarom
- Transavia
Here’s the announcement:
Zero plastic, zero hassle
We are doing our part to reduce our environmental footprint. That’s why, from January 2022, we will no longer send you a physical membership card and luggage tags. This will help save 5 tons of paper and 15 tons of plastic per year!
Always there when you need it
Instead, you can now download your Flying Blue card directly onto your smartphone. That way, you’re always ready to earn Miles and gain XP (Experience Points).
Conclusion
No much use for electronic luggage tags! You often see members having cards attached to their luggage, both carry-on and checked. I have always thrown these into the trash.
Perhaps I am a bit too sentimental for printed membership material that usually comes with these cards, but I have found them to be quite valuable. You can generally see all your benefits in a concise format.
I wish these would be available by request.
