British Airways Executive Club has previously advised scheduled IT maintenance that was supposed to be completed yesterday, 17 November 2021 but something must have gone wrong as the BAEC section of the website is still offline as of today (Thursday).
Currently, members still find themselves unable to access their account options including Avios redemptions and even a plain login isn’t possible.
First only household account modifications were impacted but from the afternoon of 13 November 2021 until the morning of 17 November 2021 (GMT) members expected to be unable to log in to their Executive Club account or spend Avios. That was 24 hours ago and it’s not looking good.
British Airways has given members advance notice about this to get their redemptions in order before access to the Avios cut out for the better part of the week.
BAEC sent out this email last month to remind people of the timeline and upcoming account limitations:
Dear Sebastian,
We’ve previously been in touch about our planned improvements to the Executive Club, letting you know you’ll be unable to access your Household Account until 17 November 2021.
In addition to this, from the afternoon of 13 November 2021 until the morning of 17 November 2021 (GMT), you’ll be unable to log in to your Executive Club account or spend your Avios. But rest assured, you will continue to collect Avios during this time. …
Whatever happened during this data migration project didn’t exactly go according to plan.
Some people on Flyertalk reported their account briefly showing them being Lifetime Gold Guest List before access to the accounts cut out again.
Now it just shows like this:
They haven’t even bothered to update the date or timeline. Really bad performance but I can’t say that I’m surprised considering we’re talking about British Airways here.
Conclusion
Whenever there is scheduled IT maintenance of a loyalty program it’s really a wild card and especially with British Airways we’ve seen how bad it can really go over the years.
I previously recommended taking a screenshot of your account balance and in case you need it, download a digital copy of your tier membership card or request a physical one by mail.
