Orbitz Rewards has notified their Gold & Platinum members that the popular booking site will extend the tier level of the incumbent members for another year.
According to the email Orbitz sent out last week the membership status (which depends on the amount of hotel nights booked through Orbitz in one calendar year) has been extended until March 1, 2023.
This is the second time that Orbitz is extending their status benefits for customers during the pandemic as most customers may find it to be difficult to book even the relatively low amount of nights required for Orbitz Rewards status at hotels these days.
You can access Orbitz Rewards here.
Here is what the email reads which I received:
This is rather generous and I’ve come to like certain benefits attached to Orbitz Platinum such as a 1PM checkout at various hotels in Las Vegas where you commonly have to check out at 11am which is rather annoying. Though I had a rather bad experience with these benefits at the Mirage and will probably write about that later this week.
Even though Orbitz – just like many other OTA booking sites – has been owned by Expedia for quite some time now it has always been my favorite as far as hotel bookings are concerned.
Main reason for this is that you can earn Orbucks ($ value amount based on each booking), paired with cashback and also file for their Best Price Guarantee.
Orbitz Platinum also reimburses members an annual $50 worth of incidentals on flights such as baggage and seat upgrade fees as long as the initial flight booking went through Orbitz.
Here are the listed benefits for each level:
It’s rather easy for a frequent traveler to find 12 nights per year where staying at hotels that are not affiliated with any program makes more sense due to price or location.
All in all I consider this program a rather valuable tool to have in the back pocket just to book independent hotels and avail yourself to the best price guarantees for hotels and flights. While Orbitz stopped actively promoting and pushing them they still accept such claims and will pay the $50 Orbucks too if the claim gets approved.
The Orbitz Rewards program was slightly overhauled in 2018 and John summarized it in an article back then:
Also keep in mind that Orbitz has almost always a 10-15% discount coupon swirling around that can be applied to most hotel bookings. You’re able to combine coupons with Orbucks payments and cashback.
These coupons can be found on their main, front page towards the bottom and they usually last for a quarter (limited time use, often a maximum of 3x per account).
Orbitz Rewards Gold & Platinum members will now have until March 1, 2023 to utilize their benefits associated with the respective tier level.
Always make sure to look for a current discount coupon when booking Orbitz hotels and remember to claim your $50 benefit once per year. For those Platinum members who don’t have TSA preCheck yet you’re also eligible to get a code for free sign up.
