Qatar Airways Privilege Club has just extended the expired tier level for their members (including those who participated in their rare status match campaign that was available in May of 2020) through December of 2022.
Members can check their status on the Qatar Airways website, retrieve an electronic membership card with the new expiration date, or request a physical card.
Keep in mind that the QCredits in the account after the status match will expire in June of this year and do not align with the tier status in terms of validity.
The match was originally valid for exactly one year from the time of the match and Qatar Airways has also placed the QCredits which are good for upgrades, excess baggage and lounge passes into the account (40 for Gold, 60 for Platinum).
It took them a little to process these applications back them but not too long after all, especially as there was some confusion about the membership materials that had to be sent it (such as a picture of the membership card which many airlines don’t issue anymore or an account statement with the member’s name on it).
You can read more about the 2020 status match promotion in our initial article here.
I just checked the account of a friend who I matched to Qatar from her KrisFlyer account and the extension is now processed:
The following notices pop up when logging into the account:
At this point it might be useful to find the one or other solution for using the QCredit in a meaningful way, either by purchasing lounge vouchers or booking a Qatar Airways flight and using the upgrade option. Note that the upgrade can also be sponsored to another traveler, it doesn’t have to be the member who is using the QCredits.
Surprisingly both the 40 and 60 credits are very useful. You can upgrade pretty much any flight with 60 credits but even 40 are sufficient for a route such as Doha-Europe or Doha-Thailand.
Mind you, Qatar Airways extended all other members whose status was expiring as well, this policy doesn’t just concern those who have matched in the past.
Your loyalty means everything to us and we would like to honour your choice to fly with us. We understand that you may need more time to plan your travel and we want to ensure that matters beyond your control do not impact your tier status with us.
If you are a Platinum, Gold or Silver member of Privilege Club and your membership status is due to end before 31 December 2022, we’ll automatically extend your tier validity to 31 December 2022 on the day of renewal. You may continue to enjoy you tier benefits as you explore the world with Qatar Airways, the World’s Best Airline, through our hub Hamad International Airport, the World’s Best Airport.
Book your next trip and keep earning Qpoints to retain your tier beyond 2022.
Qatar Airways Privilege Club has now extended the status match candidates they accepted back in 2020 for a second time and the members have now received their matched tier until the end of the 2022 calendar year.
The Qcredits associated with the account will NOT carry forward all the way into December and instead expire in the middle of this year (our account shows a June expiry). You should use these credits somehow until then.
