British Airways has extended member tiers for two years and expiring upgrade vouchers also once, but now those have started to turn to dust.
When I was waiting for my connecting flight in Mexico City earlier this week, I remembered that I had two vouchers expiring on that day, and I would need to contact BA to have them extended.
You can access BA here.
I had put off calling BA a few times because earlier, when I tried to get one award ticket canceled and refunded, there were issues with the phone lines (jammed at BA’s end).
To my surprise, I did get through this time and had the ticket issue dealt with, and the agent requested to have the vouchers extended too. He told me that I would hear back from the Executive Club shortly with a decision.
You can usually extend expiring vouchers once for six months, and I often had some unused expiring because I tend not to fly that much on BA.
It took two days to get a reply that the vouchers had been extended by six months (some others may have had theirs extended by twelve).
The vouchers were back on active on my account.
I am inching towards lifetime Gold (Oneworld Emerald) with BA that required 35,000 Tier Points. This would require additional 50+ long-haul flights in business.
Conclusion
I am glad that BA is flexible with extending these upgrade vouchers, but it would have made sense to do it for everyone without calling them, considering how congested the lines are.
Perhaps I can book some flights on BA for summer and fall travel this year? I have flown far more than usually on SkyTeam airlines of Air France, AeroMexico, and KLM during the pandemic due to transit test rules that have often been in place at Heathrow.
BTW I like how flexible these BA vouchers are. You can use them for both awards and paid tickets and through competent travel agents.
