Choice Hotels sent out an email over the weekend and had some information that many will overlook.
Choice has lowered the number of points members earn for stays of 7 nights or longer at MainStay Suites and Suburban Extended Stay Hotel brands.

Here’s the new earnings structure:
- 1-6 nights: 10 points per $1
- 7-30 nights: 5 points per $1
- 31 nights or more: Less than 5 points per $1
It is unclear how many points Choice Privileges members earn for stays of 31 nights or more. The email that Choice sent states that it is less than 5 per USD, but the exact number is not disclosed anywhere.
Choice’s email link resolves to the FAQ page that doesn’t deal with earning points at all.
Conclusion
I doubt this affects many of our readers, but may some who stay at these two brands for a week. I guess that Choice has lowered the loyalty program participation fee on longer stays and hence cannot issue the usual number of points.
