Hilton Honors™ Military Program

Hilton program helps states & job-hunting veterans

NASWA’s partnership with Hilton™ is making the career transition easier for current and former military members and their families. The Hilton Honors™ Military Program provides up to 100,000 hotel points to eligible Transitioning Service Members, Veterans, Military Spouses, and other eligible persons to support needed travel for verifiable employment-related activities, such as a job search, training for a new job, or finding housing. Points are not awarded for vacations or non-employment activities, and no one is guaranteed to receive points. Individuals can receive up to 100,000 points once in their lifetime. Each participating state sets its own eligibility and residency requirements, and recipients must have a Hilton Honors™ account to receive the points.

The Hilton Honors™ Military program was started as part of Hilton’s “Operation: Opportunity” program where they have hired more than 35,000 Veterans, military spouses and dependents in the last six years.

28 states are now participating in the program, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia, Texas, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Other states may be joining later this year.

Does the program help veterans?

  • General Dynamics, Bath Iron Works in Maine has discovered the value of this program and referred four new hires. None were living in Maine at the time, so having a place to stay during initial housing search or interview has been helping with successful hires, and creating less stress.
  • A retired Marine veteran’s spouse recently received Hilton Honors Rewards points after accepting a Professor’s position at a local university. The collaboration between the Maryland Department of Labor Veteran’s Program, NASWA and the Hilton organization provided the veteran’s spouse and her family rewards points towards a few hotel night’s stay while house hunting in a new area.
  • A transitioning Air Force Service Member received 100,000 Hilton Honors Points for lodging and house-hunting while relocating from Texas to California after being hired by the California Department of Veterans Affair.
  • A Navy pilot requested Hilton Honor points to stay in Atlanta for his advanced FAA ATP/CTP course for certification to transition to be a civilian pilot. Getting the points allowed the pilot to save hundreds of dollars on his hotel stay for an already expensive training trip

Conclusion

An interesting program from Hilton that helps military and their spouses’ transition from the service by assisting them with accommodation needs by donating up to 100,000 points each. These points should be enough for two to four free nights outside the most expensive markets.
