Marriott has been in hot water this weekend after hosting (again) a Neo-Nazi conference at its Orlando World Center Marriott hotel.
Marriott boasts about awards it has won for diversity and inclusion while at the same time collecting cash from the Neo-Nazis?
Here’s an excerpt from the Orlando Sentinel:
The Orlando World Center Marriott on Friday night was the scene of white nationalist Nick Fuentes’ America First Political Action Conference, or AFPAC, according to HuffPost. Fuentes was involved in the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville in 2017 and has been subpoenaed over his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol attack.
Speakers at his event this year praised “Western white culture” and called for White House advisor Anthony Fauci to be hanged. Attendees also chanted, “Putin! Putin!” and cheered the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Calls to the Marriott to ask about the event were cut off or immediately sent to voicemail. A request for comment from a corporate Marriott spokesperson was not immediately returned.
We were in touch with Marriott on Saturday to see if they have a statement regarding this event, but they haven’t provided us with one.
Marriott Tries To Suppress Discussion?
A LoyaltyLobby reader sent us a screenshot of a discussion about this event at Marriott’s Insiders-forum that is now hosted on Facebook. Unfortunately, the thread has been deleted by Marriott’s moderators, as it is no longer visible.
Marriott Insiders forum members were against this event and surprised that in the Marriottland, the dollars go over morals, despite what the company implies in its corporate communication.
Hotels often decide not to host events, such as this Neo-Nazi one, that go against their values regarding human rights and propping up dictators gone mad.
Sadly, Marriott tries to downplay the event and doesn’t want its Insiders-forum members to have an open and frank discussion about it by deleting the conversation.
Perhaps, Orlando World Center Marriott should donate the proceeds from this event to the Human Rights Campaign?
