Marriott ran several eGiftCard promotions during the pandemic that allowed members to buy them at a discount. The public sale hasn’t recently returned.
Now, Marriott has approached select Bonvoy members allowing them to purchase up to $5,000 worth of eGiftCards at a 20% off through June 10, 2022.
You can access Marriott’s page for buying gift cards here.

Reader Email: Marriott eGiftCards Compromised & Balance Used?
We yesterday published a piece about compromised/hacked Marriott Bonvoy eGiftCards, and there appear to be several cases. However, it is unclear how widespread this issue is.
There are other problems with these gift cards that we have covered. Theoretically, they work close to all Marriott-affiliated hotels worldwide. Good luck, however, finding an employee aware of the convoluted redemption process (separate website with username and password).

Marriott E-Gift Card Purchase Issues This Time?
Conclusion
You can use Marriott eGiftCards for basically all expenses incurred during your stay, and you get points for the total amount.
However, you need patience when redeeming these, as most front desk employees are not aware of how to process them, as these are relatively rare. These are redeemed using a separate Givex system entirely different from the usual credit and debit cards.
I would also be hesitant to purchase more than you need in the immediate future, as there might be issues with breaches and it is unclear if and how purchasers are made whole.
