For the last couple of months, I have written multiple times about a promotion CLEAR ran in spring for United Premier members, advertising bonus miles for customers who sign up for a new account.
The promotion offered 15,000 miles for new CLEAR customers that sign up and those points were due quite some time ago but a lot of our readers as well as myself were still missing the credit.
By early June, none of the new customers who signed up under the campaign has received even a mile from CLEAR and we had received several emails of angry new customers who accuse the company of scamming them.
When this offer came around it was limited to Mileage Plus Premier members (Silver and above) who signed up under this campaign by April 1, 2022 and the miles will be deposited for use within 6-8 weeks through the United Airlines link under the member’s account.
This was the original article I wrote related to the campaign:
And a follow-up on June 9th:
CLEAR has also a popular relationship with American Express and what makes this promotion especially lucrative is that you can combine it with both American Express credits (free for Platinum, $100 credit for Green and sometimes targeted offers for Gold).
A few readers have contacted us since and asked about when these miles will show up as so far none of the miles have been deposited in the respective Mileage Plus accounts.
I contacted CLEAR but haven’t received an answer from them. This has been my consistent experience with that company whenever I had an inquiry. The last time I wrote them they finally did reply.
A few days later the 15,000 points showed up on my Mileage Plus account:
The points posted with an April 14th transaction date but definitely didn’t credit until around June 15th so there was a certain gap between the signup date (obviously), the date they eventually posted and the date they were supposed to post by.
Let’s keep in mind that as per the T&C of this campaign they advised 6-8 weeks and the earliest a member was able to sign up was March 17th. The 8-week window after the promotion has ended has now ended for 10 days already and nothing.
In my previous article about a Reader Question related to this promotion some commented that CLEAR also engaged in very deceptive practices in past signup promotions, some never receiving their sign-up bonuses such as the United Travel Bank credits either.
Either way, I’m glad that at least in this instance they finally came through.
Conclusion
Roughly two months after sign-up with CLEAR the promised 15,000 Mileage Plus miles were posted to my account. It took several emails and opening a case with the CA Attorney General’s Consumer Office to get them though I’m sure by the time the points were posted the AG file hasn’t been handled yet.
Hopefully, I’m not the only one who finally got his points and that other readers were also able to get their promised miles posted. In case you haven’t you can always contact their customer care and request a full refund based on them not honoring their promise or you can file for a chargeback with your credit card.
