Please put on all email lists informing of all Bonvoy promotions.
Why doesn’t Bonvoy just post promotions on their app. It seems kind unfair. It’s easy for any member level to miss it.
And why don’t they just automatically enroll you especially since I’m a Titanium level member.
Their underhanded way of doing sucks and makes you think loyalty is a one way street.
First, we cover all Marriott global bonus opportunities, whether targeted or open for everyone.
We have stopped, however, covering most of the offers that depend on the rate type you book because they hardly make any sense (you pay dearly for the points).
The global bonus opportunities and targeted ones, when one is extended to your Bonvoy account, should be visible on the app and Marriott promotion central.
Marriott is not the only loyalty program that requires members to register for bonus offers; they all do.
The thinking goes that some travelers don’t follow the promotions at all, and if they are not interested in them or the number of points you get, why extend them?
When it comes to loyalty and whether it is a one-way street, there was an unfortunate blunder by one of the Marriott executives. He said that loyalty program members are the product that is marketed to hotel owners.
I believe that we all should be loyal to our own wallets and not faceless mega-corporations that don’t have our best interests in their minds.
I have barely set foot at Marriott properties since their latest global offer ended in April. I have earned triple & quadruple points with Hilton (Diamond bonus factored in) and quadruple to sextuple with IHG (Diamond + cc bonus included) all summer long.
Conclusion
The point I have tried to make for years is not to be blindly loyal to one chain but instead move your stays based on who has the best offer.
Perhaps Marriott has tested what effect, if any, having no promotions at all has had on elite member engagement this summer. Mine went close to zero.
When IHG revamped its program earlier this year, making it again more competitive with its full-service competitors, I moved plenty of stays there.
Loyalty is a two-way street for me, and it should also be for you.
