Le Meridien Barcelona offers 231 upscale rooms and suites on a 1950s era building in the middle of La Rambla, steps away from the city’s principal touristic attractions. Because of the building’s history as a non-hotel, you’ll find that rooms and suites have unique sizes and shapes, and some of them (in the upper floors) offer outdoor terraces overlooking the city skyline.
Designed for engaging stays, Corner Suites afford panoramic views of Las Ramblas through floor-to-ceiling windows; some have two expansive walls of windows. Each sophisticated space can be illuminated by natural daylight, or by an asymmetrical lighting system comprising a flower dot desk lamp by Verner Panton, a Bellevue standing lamp by Arne Jacobsen, and a wire ceiling light by Pedret.
Absinthe mustard accents complement angled wooden floorboards reminiscent of Avinguda Diagonal. Barcelonan touches are also evident in hydraulic floors represented in the carpet, moulding inspired by Eixample buildings, a blackbird statuette like the birds of Las Ramblas, and local photography by Nicanor García and Carmen Vontrueba.
The round living room bears inspiration from mid-century modernism. Specially commissioned furnishings include a Fredericia armchair and a Hay chair. A sofa converts into a double bed, and ample storage space is provided near a flat screen TV and Bose® Bluetooth speakers.
A Saarinen executive armless chair by Knoll invites guests to sit at a desk with office supplies, a Shear lamp by Bert Frank, and a control panel: an HDMI TV connection, an Ethernet port, USB chargers, and an international socket without a transformer. Versatile net tables can be used for informal meetings or meals facilitated by a refrigerator, an illy® coffee and tea machine, and refined china, silverware, and glasses.
The separate bedroom houses one king-size or two twin LM BEDs, dressed in crisp white linens and a featherweight duvet, plus a second TV and an en-suite sitting area. Iconic mid-century lightning highlights commissioned photography of the city’s diverse districts.
Separated from the bedroom by glass wall with privacy shades inspired by Gaudí, the sophisticated grey-stone bathroom features a mosaic floor tiled in the geometric pattern made famous by Barcelonan designers. A deep-soaking bathtub stands separate from the invigorating rainforest shower. A single vanity is distinguished by a rectangular white vessel sink and a makeup mirror. Malin & Goetz bath amenities, plush bathrobes, and soft slippers complete the experience.
A suite may connect to another guest room to create a two-bedroom suite.
