Southwest Airlines has launched another Rapid Rewards points sale, valid for purchases made until December 22, 2022.
You can buy 60,000 Rapid Rewards points in a transaction before any possible bonuses, which is also the daily maximum. Southwest doesn’t limit the number of points you can purchase in a calendar year. The maximum discount under the latest offer is 50%.

A Rapid Rewards point purchased under the offer is 1.65 cents each.
Does it make ANY sense to buy Rapid Rewards points?
The value of a Rapid Rewards point used for Wanna Getaway fares is 1.2 cents each. Therefore, purchasing Rapid Rewards points at 1.65 cents makes very little sense.
I would only consider buying to top off an account (a small number of points) for award redemption.
Note that paid fares would EARN more Rapid Rewards points. Certain taxes are not applicable for award tickets issued using Rapid Rewards points, and tickets are cancelable.
Conclusion
Southwest prices awards dynamically, and the value of a point is always less than what you pay for during these frequent sales. So it is cheaper to buy the ticket using cash, AND you earn some Rapid Rewards points.
