Japan Airlines is launching a new status program in 2024 that will complement the current JAL Global Club and FLY ON programs.
The new yet-to-be-named program rewards you for everyday activities and doesn’t require many flights. The rewards accumulate over time and can be something such as lounge passes.
You can access JAL’s page for the new program here.
New Program
The page lacks details beyond that; more information about the program and qualifications requirements will be released in late 2023.
Examples
The new program tries to incentivize members to credit everyday transactions to the program that brings cash to the airline.
FLY ON Won’t Be Going Away
You need a JAL-affiliated credit card to participate in the new “everyday” program.
There is a conversion to the new program where all previous flight activity is moved to the new program.
JAL Global Club
To make things complicated, the JAL Global Club won’t be going away, but some adjustments will be made.
Conclusion
JAL likes to make everything extremely complicated by having three partially overlapping programs: FLY ON, The New Everyday, and JAL Global Club, and then you continue collecting Mileage Bank miles.
I looked into the Mileage Bank when I spent extensive time in Japan but decided against it because most of the qualifying flights must be on JAL if the status is of any importance.
It seems that JAL tries to partially mimic what AA has done and reward those who not only fly but also spend on the ground.
