Marriott Bonvoy has been running a campaign for co-branded credit card holders, offering 2,000 Bonus Points per brand that ran from September 21 through December 15, 2022, yet so far, none of brand-related points have posted.
The promotion consisted of two components, part one was available to each Bonvoy member and simply offered 2,000 points for each brand beginning with the second stay, and those bonus points were all posted with the original stay.
Marriott Bonvoy members were able to earn 2,000 bonus points for each PAID stay (award nights don’t count) completed during the offer period, starting from the second stay. Bonvoy-co branded credit card holders would earn an additional 2,000 points.
You can access this offer on Marriott’s website here.
The registration has now closed and is soon coming to an end, however, these are the rules:
- Earn 2,000 bonus points on each eligible stay, starting with your second stay.*
- Register now through December 1 to earn 2,000 bonus points after completing an eligible stay at participating hotels, starting with your second stay. Stays must be completed from September 21 through December 15, 2022.
- Plus, Marriott Bonvoy Credit Card holders can earn an additional 2,000 bonus points for each eligible stay at a different hotel brand during the promotional period, starting with the stay at the second brand. Stays must be completed during the promotion earning period. Not a Credit Card holder?
This last point has caused a lot of readers’ concern as quite a few have asked when these credit card-related bonuses will post to their accounts.
We already got emails about this in December and I covered this previously but now it has been a full month since the promotion ended and still no points in sight.
Reader Question: When Do Marriott Bonvoy’s 2,000 Bonus Points Per Brand For Co-Branded Cards Post?
While Marriott is technically still within their grace period to process the transactions and get the points posted, I really can’t remember any recent promotion where they took several months to post promotional points. Keep in mind that this is part of the Fall campaign that started on September 21st.
Here is an example based on my own account:
The three promotion-eligible stays at Four Points, Aloft, and Luxury Collection have all incurred the 2,000 bonus points, while my stay at the W Taipei did not since it was an award stay.
I’m still due 6,000 additional points for each of these brands as a holder of the Bonvoy Brilliant card and so it’s been crickets. Same for everyone else I know who participated in this campaign, holding an eligible card.
John wrote about this campaign back in September, reminding our readers to sign up:
This was a universal campaign for all members, not a targeted one so hopefully, many were able to take advantage of at least the basic component that had nothing to do with holding a credit card (which isn’t available in all markets).
Have all basic points posted?
The stay-attached bonuses have all been posted with the initial transaction, but none of the brand-related credit card bonuses have been posted yet. This was to be expected, as it was made clear in the Terms & Conditions of the campaign that this will or at least could take additional time:
Registration of your Marriott Bonvoy® account is required. To be eligible for the additional 2,000 bonus points per brand, starting with the second brand, you must be the primary account holder and have an active (i) Marriott Bonvoy® Credit Card, (ii) legacy Starwood Preferred Guest-branded or legacy Marriott Rewards-branded credit card issued in the United States, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, United Arab Emirates, Canada, China and the United Kingdom, or (iii) Ritz-Carlton-branded credit card issued in the United States (collectively “Marriott Bonvoy Credit Cards”), which must be issued at the time of your stay to be eligible for this offer. Your Marriott Bonvoy Credit Card account must not be cancelled or in default at the time of bonus fulfillment.
When you register for this promotion between September 7, 2022, and December 1, 2022, you can earn 2,000 bonus points per eligible paid stay at a Marriott Bonvoy participating hotel brand, starting with the second brand at which you stay during the promotion earning period. Bonuses will be issued for your first stay at each participating hotel brand during the promotion earning period, starting with the second brand. The 2,000 bonus points per brand is in addition to 2,000 bonus points per stay, starting with the second stay, for Marriott Bonvoy members. Award redemption stays where points or Free Night Awards are redeemed for each night of the entire stay are not eligible for the promotion. …
Bonuses of 2,000 points per eligible paid stay, starting with the second stay, will be awarded to the member’s account within 7 business days after checkout and will post with the stay. Additional bonus of 2,000 points per brand for Marriott Bonvoy Credit Card holders for stays at Marriott Bonvoy participating hotel brands, starting with the second brand, will be awarded to the member’s account up to 6 weeks after the promotion ends.
Based on the T&C of the campaign, Marriott gives itself up to six weeks following the end of this campaign to post the credit card-related bonuses, which means it could take until the end of January 2023 for these points to show up.
I want to emphasize again that it’s highly unusual for a company to really slow walk this process until the very last minute and maybe even beyond. I seriously wonder what their reasoning for this is!?
Conclusion
The 2,000 bonus points under this latest offer worked best for those that have short (preferably one night) and inexpensive stays.
As far as previous reader questions about the missing credit card brand campaign points are concerned, I expected the points to be credited sometime in January, in line with the t&c. Still, we’re already halfway through the month, and the promotion now ended almost four weeks ago. What’s holding them back?
Marriott currently runs several targeted bonuses for members (none for myself), and since this campaign ended long ago, I hope it won’t take forever until we see a new, general Global promotion that everyone can sign up for.
