IHG started to process Royal Ambassador renewals back in early December (read more here) and has sent out in the past week both renewal and downgrade emails to affected members.
InterContinental Ambassador is a paid membership that complements IHG One Rewards. The benefits are only applicable for stays at InterContinental hotels, and limited benefits are also available at Six Senses. There is also an invitation-only Royal Ambassador tier.
You can access IHG’s page for the Ambassador program here.

Conclusion
It is unclear whether spend at Kimpton, Regent and Six Senses IHG brands also counts for the Royal Ambassador invitation or renewal in 2023.
At least in 2022, a stay at InterContinental was enough to get an invitation if your spending was high enough at non-InterContinental IHG luxury hotels, such as Regent and Six Senses.
It would be interesting to know what spending was enough to renew or get an invitation and what led to a downgrade (leave your comments below).
The IHG One Rewards went through a refresh last year (breakfast + lounge access + suite upgrade certs with status + nights) that made the offering compelling enough for me to reengage with the program.
My qualifying IHG spent last year was roughly $12K, of which perhaps 90% was at InterContinental and Kimpton hotels. This was not enough to get an invitation, and I was not expecting one.
Previously, retaining Royal Ambassador status “forced” me to stay at select ICs that I didn’t like when better options existed for me in the same markets. So I decided why I would spend cash at hotels that I despise even if that would mean losing status, and that’s what I did.
IHG One Rewards is a secondary program for me that I use when there are good promotional offers from IHG (read bonus points) and if there are hotels in destinations that I travel to that I like.
