Uber Drivers’ Latest Scam: Claim That Passenger Doesn’t Wear A Face Mask

It seems that Uber drivers have found a new way to scam riders and the company by starting a trip when the customer is not present and canceling it immediately, claiming that the passenger was not wearing a face mask.

I had one quote way off on this trip to Mexico (read more here) and a couple of scamming drivers a year ago in Mexico, too (read more here).

Air Canada Now Refunding Non-refundable Fares (Submit By June 12, 2021)

Air Canada and the Canadian government agreed about a bailout yesterday (read more here) that mandated the airline to provide refunds for passengers on non-refundable fares.

The airline previously had refused to provide refunds even for flights it had canceled unless the government provided them liquidity. The deal sealed yesterday had C$1.4B reserved for unprocessed refunds. You need to request to get your money back by June 12, 2021.

Bangkok Airways Lounges Shutting Down Again Due To Covid-19, Travel Waiver Issued Allowing Ticket Changes

Thailand’s two full service domestic airlines Bangkok Airways has the closure of lounge services as well as a travel waiver due to the the resurgence of Covid-19 in the country.

The lounges have now closed and later reopened three times, most recently in January while other facilities such as Priority Pass lounges stayed open during the same period.

Canadian Government Bails Out Air Canada

Canadians waiting for Air Canada to refund their ticket purchases for services that the airline has canceled can soon expect to get their money back.

The airline has refused to provide refunds for Canadians (they have refunded tickets touching Europe or the United States due) unless the government provides them extra liquidity.

French Polynesia Plans To Reopen For Leisure Arrivals On May 1, 2021

French Polynesia closed its borders for leisure arrivals on February 3 and announced last week that they plan to welcome visitors again from May 1, 2021.

It is unclear whether visitors need to have proof of having vaccinated against Covid-19, recovered from the virus, or if the PCR-RT test is enough to enter the islands.

HawaiianMiles No Longer Expire

Hawaiian Airlines has changed the mileage expiry policy of HaiwaiianMiles effective April 12, 2021.

HawaiianMiles previously required activity at least every 18 months to keep them from expiring, but this is no longer necessary. Miles no longer expire.

Has IHG Rewards Tinkered With Dynamic Award Pricing Again?

We reported on April 2n based on evidence that IHG Rewards devalued its dynamic award pricing introduced in 2019 by 30% (read more here) based on searches executed.

It seems, however, that IHG may have made further changes last week, perhaps based on the outrage by IHG Rewards members.

Alaska Airlines has launched another Mileage Plan miles sale with up to 60% bonus valid through May 22, 2021.

Alaska Airlines joined Oneworld on March 31, but you must wait until summer to redeem on all alliance airlines (read more here). The airline has ties with many non-Oneworld partners such as Singapore Airlines, Emirates, and Korean Air.
