Qatar Airways Adds DFW (Dallas/Fort Worth) Its 8th Destination In North America


Qatar Airways made an announcement yesterday that it will start serving its Oneworld Alliance partner airline AA’s main DFW hub starting on July 1, 2014.


Currently Qatar Airways flies to Montreal, Chicago, Houston, New York and Washington DC in North America. The airline will start serving both Philadelphia and Miami also in 2014. You can read more about this on The Dallas Morning News website here.

American Airlines & US Airways Merger To Close On December 9


There was a development on the American Airlines and US Airways merger on November 27, 2013, when the bankruptcy judge approved the settlement that the airline had reached with the DOJ that was opposed to the merger.


Now, the airlines are expected to merge on December 9 and the new stock of American Airlines Group (AAL) will start trading on Nasdaq on the same day. You can read more about these recent developments on NY Times (here) and from Bloomberg (here)

American Airlines Testing Bidding Based Upgrades


Both Delta and United have been offering paid upgrades to domestic first class and sometimes to international business or first as well at various contact points that the customers have with the airlines from booking the ticket, checking itineraries online or at online/machine check in.

Note that Delta should be showing you the fare difference of the cabin you are booked at and the upgraded one.


Neither of these airlines have offered bidding based upgrades that American Airlines is now testing using technology provided by Plusgrade.

AAdvantageEshopping Promotion (Buy Miles At 1.7 Cents Or Less)


AAdvantageEshopping mall has a promotion for subscribing magazines via and getting 60 miles per USD charged.

American Airlines November (2013) Buy Miles Offer: Up To 30% Bonus


American Airlines has a new offer for buying AAdvantage miles and this time offering 30% bonus, when buying the maximum allowed per account during the calendar year that is 60,000 miles.


This offer is valid for purchases made up to December 31, 2013, and you can access it here.

Choice Privileges American Airlines Promotion: 1,000 Miles For 1,000 Stays


Choice Privileges has an interesting promotion for those that collect American Airlines AAdvantage miles.


The first 1,000 qualifying stays with a check out date of November 25 – December 23, 2013, earn total of 1,000 miles (750 base + 250 bonus).

American Airlines & US Airways Reciprocal Elite Benefits Commence On January 7


The merger between American Airlines and US Airways is expected to close in December. US Airways has indicated that it will have speedy exit from Star Alliance in the first quarter of 2014.


Now, according to an article on USA Today (read more here), the frequent fliers of American and US Airways will start receiving reciprocal benefits on each others flights on January 7, 2014.

American Airlines AAdvantage Eshopping Holiday Offer: 2,500 Bonus Miles For $250 Spend


American Airlines AAdvantage eShopping is offering 2,500 bonus miles for merely spending $250 on their online shopping portal between November 12 and December 2, 2013.


You earn 750 bonus miles for $75 spend, 1,500 bonus miles for $150 or 2,500 bonus miles for $250 spend. In other words, you earn 10 miles per USD bonus for purchases made via the AAdvantage eShopping portal.

American Airlines & US Airways Merger Proceeds (DOJ No Longer Opposes)

There was quite a development today on the merger of AMR, the parent of America Airlines that is still in bankruptcy, and US Airways. The Department of Justice has reached tentative agreement that would allow the airlines merge.


The airlines would sell some takeoff and landing slots at DCA and LGA airports. They are also required to divest assets at five airports. You can read more about this on NY Times article here.

American Airlines New AAdvantage Redemption Partner: Seaborne Airlines


American Airlines has added a new AAdvantage redemption partner for flights out from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to select destinations served by Seaborne Airlines.


American Airlines used to fly on their own or American Eagle metal out from San Juan to many Caribbean destinations, but all these routes have been gutted in the past year or so. American still continues to fly their mainland hubs (Miami, New York, Chicago and Dallas) and Caracas in Venezuela.

American Airlines Introduces Elite Status Boost & Renew (Soft Landings Gone)


American Airlines will offer first time in 2014 the ability to boost or renew your Gold, Platinum or Executive status. The elite status soft landings are gone, as predicted on my earlier piece (access here) back in March.


You can renew (or buy back) your Gold status for $649 and Platinum one for $1,199. The renew options doesn’t apply for Executive Platinum accounts.

Hilton HHonors Hawaii Double Miles Offer


Hilton HHonors has a new promotion for double airline miles for stays in Hawaii between November 4 and March 31, 2014.


This offer is valid for Aeroplan, Alaska, American Airlines, Hawaiian, United and US Airways frequent fliers.

Qatar Airways Flights Posting Just Fine For American Airlines AAdvantage Program


Qatar Airways joined the Oneworld Alliance on October 30th, 2013 (read more here). Qatar and American Airlines started the partnership already a month earlier for earning award miles and using them for trips (read more here).


I took four Qatar Airways flights in the past week and can confirm that they are correctly posting to American Airlines AAdvantage program. I just had the above flights posted overnight.

American Airlines Gold-Status Member Main Cabin Extra Access Extension & Policy Change


American Airlines announced their MCE (Main Cabin Extra) product on March 1, 2012 (read more here) and the Gold AAdvantage member complimentary access to it was supposed to come to an end on December 31, 2013.


Now, American Airlines has sent the email below (thanks for LoyaltyLobby reader for forwarding it to me) to Gold members about the access policy change that is actually beneficial:
