Understanding Hilton Upgrade Options As A Diamond Member

Due to the ongoing promotion of a free night certificate for every four stays, I have found myself staying at Hilton properties more regularly than usually.

Hilton has had the Nor1 upgrade options for cash already for few years. These Nor1 upgrades are space available and confirmed at the time of checking in. Now, they are also promoting points based and guaranteed upgrades at the time of reservation, and when you are accessing your reservation online.

I now have five examples when it comes to these space available and guaranteed upgrades using points, and what I have actually received at hotels without applying them at all based on my Hilton HHonors Diamond status.

When you have look at the terms and conditions of any of the recent Hilton promotions, there is a long list of excluded rate codes. Most of these rate codes are associated with online travel booking sites like Expedia and Orbitz. There are other excluded rates as well, and I have found out that the PR13CB (Corporate Benefits Employee Offer) is really beneficial at times.

Who is eligible for this “Corporate Benefits Employee Offer” or “Corporate Benefit Partner Rate” as it is described in the rate details? That is really a good question. I have used it several times at various hotels. To my understanding this rate is intended for personal, non-business travel for Hilton’s corporate partners who have negotiated rates with them.

Hilton HHonors Premium Room Rewards – Case Hilton Abu Dhabi

Earn 1000 Bonus United Miles Per Two Night Hilton Stay Until December 11th

Hilton HHonors is offering 1000 bonus United Airlines Mileage Plus miles per two nights stay at all Hilton properties between October 1st and December 11th. You can earn up to 5000 bonus Mileage Plus miles.

These are in addition to the 500 miles that one would earn having United as fixed partner on most full service locations, or 2 miles per dollar spend if United is variable miles partner.

You need to register for this promo and have United Airlines Mileage Plus either you variable or fixed airline partner. Bonus miles will be posted to your account shortly after the stay, based on my personal experience with Hilton, although the Terms and conditions of this offer say that it can take up to 6 weeks.

Hilton HHonors Gold VIP Fast Track Offer Through MVP Program – Gold Status After 4 Stays Or 9 Nights

Hilton HHonors has the most beneficial mid-level hotel status (HHonors Gold) of the chains I frequent. Gold basically gives you a free internet access and club level accommodation/free breakfast.  You will also receive some extra points and have access to VIP only rewards (basically discounted awards for multiple day stays).

Normally Hilton HHonors Gold status requires 16 stays during a calendar year. Hilton is, however, offering a MVP Fast Track offer where four stays or nine nights during a 90 day period after registering gives you a Gold status. The status is valid until the end of April of the second calendar year i.e. if you qualify this year the status is valid until April 2013.

New Hilton HHonors And Delta SkyMiles Promotion – Double Miles + 250 Medallion Qualifying Miles Per Two Nights Stay

Delta and Hilton HHonors have teamed again to offer MQM’s (Medallion Qualifying Miles) for Hilton stays. Last year one could have earned 500 MQM’s per stay. This year’s offer is 250 MQM’s per two nights stay + double miles.

I would probably go for this ONLY if I was really close to qualifying for the next level and could do it without having to take any extra flights. If this bumps you to next level with Delta’s program, it is a great promo otherwise not so.

Hilton Offers Advance Purchase Flash Sale – Good Rates At Some Properties Outside Of North America

Hilton is having a three day advance purchase Flash Sale. I am not normally a huge fan of sales like this as they don’t often give significant discount, but on this case some of the prices are actually really good and worth booking.

I was looking to make a booking for couple of properties in the Middle East and tumbled to this sale. According to the rate rules the sale rates are valid on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday in the Middle East, and Friday, Saturday, and Sunday elsewhere. Some properties appear to have loaded the lower rate for other days as well so it is worthwhile checking out.

Hilton 4th Quarter Promo Announced – Free Night Certificate Every Four Stays/Ten Nights or Double Points – Fast Ways to Free Stays

Hilton just announced their latest promo that runs from October 1st to December 31st. You can either choose to receive a free night certificate for every four stays/ten nights or double points. Unless you have absolutely no plans to redeem your free night certificate within six months of its issuance, it is really a no brainer to choose the free night certificate option over double points.

There are few hotels that have decided to opt out of this promotion, but you can still use the free night certificates at them. The exclusion list is not that bad but makes sense to double-check before making a booking just to make sure. The list of international properties that are excluded is really short.
