Super Bowl 2014 New York Hotel Award Availability

Now, it would be the time to book your hotel awards for 2014 Super Bowl weekend in the New York City. I just went through the award availability using Hilton, Hyatt, InterContinental Hotels Group/Priority Club, Marriott and Starwood points for the weekend of January 31 to February 3, 2014. (This was done 1PM EST)

Why book using points?

In most cases, the reservations are fully cancellable up until the day before without any penalty. Just make sure that you read the cancellation terms and conditions carefully. All the ones that I checked, allowed cancellations without any penalties.

Starwood Capital Completes Sale Of Four French Properties To Be Branded And Manage By Hyatt

Starwood Capital (nothing to do with Starwood the hotel chain) has completed the sale of four French properties (Concorde Lafayette, Hotel du Louvre, Martinez and Palais de la Mediterranee) to Qatari investment firm (I originally wrote about this in June last year) and these properties will be managed and branded as Hyatt starting on April 1, 2013.

The hotels will convert to following Hyatt brands after renovations:

  • Hotel Martinez will be rebranded Grand Hyatt Cannes Hotel Martinez
  • Palais de la Mediterranée Hotel and Casino will be rebranded Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Mediterranée
  • Concorde Lafayette will be rebranded Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile
  • Hotel du Louvre will enter the Hyatt brand family with its identity intact and will be marketed initially as Hotel du Louvre. Following a renovation, the hotel is to become an Andaz.

Buy Hyatt Gold Passport Points and Get 30% Bonus

Hyatt just emailed me an offer to purchase Hyatt Gold Passport points and receive a 30% bonus. This bonus offer is valid for purchases made between January 31 and February 6, 2013. You can access this offer here:

I think that the email is not very well worded as it states “Your Free Night at Hyatt is Closer Than You Think”.

Hyatt Terms & Conditions About Eligible Stays Changed Again

Seems that Hyatt Gold Passport cannot make their mind, whether to grant points (and possibly stay credit) for members that arrive to a hotel without having advance reservations.

I first reported about Hyatt Gold Passport terms and conditions change regarding the walk-in guests on December 9, 2013, and again on December 23, 2013, when Hyatt had reverted to old terms and conditions.

My Hotel Program Strategy for 2013

The number of hotel nights that I have stayed at the hotels yearly hasn’t really fluctuated for close to ten years (as I have been living out of them). The hotel chains that I have frequented, however, has changed from year to year.

At the top tier level, the hotel chains are interchangeable. What matters to me most, are the quality of the promotions that the hotel chain is offering i.e. if someone is running an unlimited free night promotions, I will move all of my stays for the promotional period there.

Hyatt January (2013) Edition of the 48 Hour Sale – C48JAN (Rerun)

Seems that Hyatt has started to have the monthly 24 hour sale twice. There was one last week and there is a new one this week on 22nd and 23rd of January. I expect that the participating properties are same.

Hyatt is having their monthly 48 hour sale where you can save up to 20% off of best available rates (BAR). Sometimes you can save quite a bit of money and sometimes you cannot. You can access the Hyatt’s web page for this promotion here.

List Of Participating Properties in Hyatt’s January 48 Hour Sale

Earlier today, I wrote about Hyatt’s January 48 hour sale. I requested a list of participating properties from Hyatt and they were kind enough to pull up the following list of participating properties in the United States.

Participating properties:
Hyatt Regency Monterey
Hyatt Regency Pier 66

Summary of Pros and Cons of Hilton, Hyatt, InterContinental Hotels Group/Priority Club, Marriott & Starwood Preferred Guest

In the past month, I wrote extensive articles about the good and not so good things about Hilton, Hyatt, InterContinental Hotels Group/Priority Club, Marriott and Starwood Preferred Guest. I just went back and did some small changes to them based on the feedback that I have received and what else have come to my mind.

I got some requests to do similar write ups about some other programs  such as Le Club Accorhotels and Club Carlson. Unfortunately, I have not had nowhere near as many nights with these two chains as I have any of the above five of which I have spent anywhere between 300 to 700 nights each.

What do you especially LIKE or DISLIKE about any of these five hotel chains and/or their loyalty programs? Leave you comments below.

Hyatt Stay Certificates Changes: New Ultimate Level & Prices Tweaked

Hyatt has introduced new Ultimate level stay certificate and tweaked some certificate prices. You can read my article about saving money on Hyatt stays by using stay certificates here. Also, last week I wrote about the Exclusive level stay certificates.

The new Ultimate level stay certificate is priced at $461.11 and is the only stay certificate level that is accepted at the following nine properties:

Hyatt Exclusive Level Stay Certificates Now Available for Purchase

Few months ago, I wrote about good deals that you could get at Hyatt hotels if you buy Hyatt Stay Certificates beforehand and use them to pay for your accommodation. All the Hyatt Gold Passport status benefits apply on stays booked using these, but you won’t get points for the room rate or stay credit.

Hyatt had a list of properties that would accept this Exclusive level stay certificates before they were even available for sale and I wrote about it last year.

Priority Club and Amtrak Guest Rewards are transfer partners via Once you have signed up for account, you can then link number of your accounts and perform transfers between them, often at very unfavorable rates. The minimum number of points that you need to transfer from Priority Club is 10000 but there doesn’t appear to be upper limit and you can transfer any amount over 10K.

Hyatt Backpedalling on Program Terms and Conditions Changes

On December 9th, I wrote about terms and conditions changes that Hyatt had quietly introduced and hadn’t informed the program members at all.

There were four major changes that may affect you:

1.  Walk in guests (no prior reservation) may not be eligible to earn Hyatt Gold Passport points regardless of the rate paid.

2. Guest must be a Hyatt Gold Passport member to earn miles on program partners.

3. Paying for dining & spa charges partially using points, the rest will become ineligible charge for point earnings purposes.

4. Platinum Extras Award have been discontinued
