Response from Priority Club Regarding the Free Night Award Structure Change

Yesterday, I wrote about the changes that were coming to free night awards with Priority Club. They are introducing nine award categories and going away with bran dependent bands.

Priority Club New Award Categories
Priority Club New Award Categories

The new award categories are going into effect on January 18, 2013, but Priority Club will honor the old award levels, if they are lower, until Match 18, 2013. But, how can you find out the older award category, as Priority Club refuses to publish a list of properties moving in categories?

Summary of Pros and Cons of Hilton, Hyatt, InterContinental Hotels Group/Priority Club, Marriott & Starwood Preferred Guest

In the past month, I wrote extensive articles about the good and not so good things about Hilton, Hyatt, InterContinental Hotels Group/Priority Club, Marriott and Starwood Preferred Guest. I just went back and did some small changes to them based on the feedback that I have received and what else have come to my mind.

I got some requests to do similar write ups about some other programs  such as Le Club Accorhotels and Club Carlson. Unfortunately, I have not had nowhere near as many nights with these two chains as I have any of the above five of which I have spent anywhere between 300 to 700 nights each.

What do you especially LIKE or DISLIKE about any of these five hotel chains and/or their loyalty programs? Leave you comments below.

Priority Club is going away with brand dependent award night point structure and implementing instead NINE award categories from 10K to 50K Priority Club points per night.

Priority Club last time tweaked their award categories on January 18, 2012, and below is the list of current categories that are still valid.

Priority Club Platinum Status Match

Priority Club Platinum status was previously very easy to get by just having maybe seven stays per year, when all the points deposited counted towards the status. This changed, however, on January 1, 2013.

Base points earned from Qualifying Rates paid for hotel stays, points collected from partner transactions, PCR Bonus Points Packages and Meeting Rewards are considered Elite Qualifying Points and counted towards membership elite status.

Priority Club still continues to match status from competing programs. I requested a list of programs that they match, but didn’t get one. Apparently, they are really matching most similar programs such as Best Western, Choice, Hilton, Hyatt, Le Club Accorhotels, Marriott, Starwood etc.

Edit (July 8, 2013): There has been a change on programs they match and Club Carlson/Accor both have been dropped from the list of programs that they match. I will write an updated piece about IHG Rewards Club status match within the next week.

Which program did you match and how long it took Priority Club to upgrade your status? Leave a message below.

The Tale of Three InterContinental Ambassador Packages: Gold, Platinum & Royal Ambassador

Update on Priority Club, Amtrak Guest Rewards & Points.com

Yesterday, I wrote about a good deal for exchanging Priority Club points to Amtrak Guest Rewards via Points.com. Amtrak Guest Rewards had recently became a partner of Points.com and I thought that they were having a promotional offer for getting some exchanges done.

Alas, this was not the case. Someone at the Points.com had had a fat finger and loaded an incorrect trade value for these programs. Some had their point trades canceled while others that got their trade early in did not.

Turn Priority Club Points for Hyatt Gift Cards, Starwood Award Nights, Amtrak Travel, Hilton HHonors and Choice Privileges Points at Very Good Value

Priority Club and Amtrak Guest Rewards are transfer partners via Points.com. Once you have signed up for Points.com account, you can then link number of your accounts and perform transfers between them, often at very unfavorable rates. But it is worthwhile sometimes to clean up old accounts or for meeting some promotional activity requirements.

Now, you can transfer Priority Club points to Amtrak Guest Rewards points at very favorable ratio, however. You 3 Priority Club points will turn to 4 Amtrak Guest Rewards points. The minimum number of points that you need to transfer from Priority Club is 10000 but there doesn’t appear to be upper limit and you can transfer any amount over 10K.

Pros & Cons of Priority Club (InterContinental Hotels Group)

This is one of the chains that I have had a love hate relationship over the years.  I didn’t have stays for couple of years (had lot of stays from 2006 to 2010) and then started to stay again late last year and had probably around 100 nights this year. I have already booked one Point Breaks hotel for a month starting early January.

ihg-brands

Overall, the program is VERY rewarding IF you can work the promos of earning points and using them for Point Breaks hotels at 5K Priority Club points per night. If you are Royal Ambassador and have one night stays at InterContinental Hotels, the program is very good on both earning points and status recognition.

My main gripes are the lower end hotels like Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inns that are very inconsistent especially in North America. You never know if the Holiday Inn is a three or  four and a half star one before staying at.

Priority Club Stay More Earn More-Bonuses Out Until April 30, 2013

Priority Club has just released a number of Stay More Earn More-bonuses for the first four months of the 2013. Note that these are valid from January 7 to April 30, 2013.

priority-club-stay-bonus-1-2013-10-nights

As always, there are different promotions available and Priority Club has introduced a new twist this time as well.

Some of the promotions have a set number of points earned + number of points earned more for few more nights.

Then there are bonuses that give you a set number of bonus points for the first 10 to 15 nights and then set number of points for every five nights going forward forward. The number of points earned during this promotion is not capped for the latter type.

Remember that you can only register for one of the promotions below and you cannot change the selection after registration.

You need to register before your first stay has posted to your account during the promotional period. I would wait as late as possible to figure out the number of stays that you will stay with the InterContinental Hotels Group until April 30th, 2013.

There are likely going to be one or two global promotions during this time frame as well that will be combinable with these Stay-bonuses.

You can register for this promotion here. You need to use your Priority Club account number or email address and the four digit promotional code.

5521 = Stay 2 Nights Get 2500 Bonus Points & Stay 2 More Nights and Get 2500 More Points

5528 = Stay 2 Nights Get 2500 Bonus Points (not sure about possible bonuses)

3411 = Stay 4 Nights Get 5000 Bonus Points & Stay 4 More Nights and Get 5000 More Points

3414 = Stay 5 Nights Get 10000 Bonus Points & Exclusive Elite Offer for 5K Bonus Points for Every Additional 5 Nights

3415 = Stay 10 Nights Get 15000 Bonus Points & Exclusive Elite Offer for 5K Bonus Points for Every Additional 5 Nights

3416 = Stay 15 Nights Get 20000 Bonus Points & Exclusive Elite Offer for 5K Bonus Points for Every Additional 5 Nights

Not sure about the following bonuses that are valid this round as well

3412 = Stay 3 Nights Get 2000 Miles

3413 = Stay 5 Nights Get 2000 Miles

5527 = Stay 3 Nights Get $25 Gift Card

If someone has received the offer 5528 or 3414, I would appreciate a copy of the email (john@loyaltylobby.com). Quite likely they both have additional points for nights beyond the minimum.

Conclusion

There is really no reason to register right now. You can wait until you have your first stay and then decide which promotion would fit you best during this time frame. Just remember that you absolutely cannot change the selection once you have registered.

Let’s hope that this is a first sign of never ending Priority Club promotion for 2013!

Update on Royal Ambassador Referral Certs – Gone or Not?

On Sunday, I wrote about the change in wording on the website for Royal Ambassador website that indicated and still does that the complimentary Royal Ambassador referral certificates would be gone and replaced by paid referrals.

ic-royal-ambassador-change-bigger

Today, an InterContinental Hotels Group employee (confirmed by the email address) left the following reply to the original blog post:

ic-royal-ambassador-referral-not-gone

It appears that the new wording on the recently launched website is incorrect and that the Royal Ambassador referrals are not going away.

Conclusion

All these programs should be very careful when it comes to wording used on their websites. The text that InterContinental still has on their Royal Ambassador site does indicate that referrals would be paid.

Priority Club One Time Bonus Offers for December

Most of the following Priority Club bonus offers are coming to an end on December 31, 2012. If you have InterContinental Hotels Group stays coming this month and you haven’t taken advantage of these bonus offers, you should. It is unclear at this point, if any of these offers that are soon expiring will be extended in 2013.

priority-club-my-offer-status-december-2012

You can register for these promotions at priorityclub.com/register. If you get an error message that the code is invalid, it only means that you have taken advantage of the offer previously and that your account is not eligible for it.

Note that Priority Club is changing status qualifying requirements in 2013. You can read more about the changes here. You can still qualify under the old terms in 2012, however.
