Bangkok Marriott Sukhumvit (Thonglor – Soi 57) – Review Of My Opening Night Stay

For the past couple of weeks I have been in Bangkok and I had the opportunity to stay at the newest Marriott branded hotel on its opening day, March 18th, 2013. The opening day of this property was moved up couple of times and I was able to book it for an opening day arrival just a couple of days before.

I like to check out new properties when they open while, at the same time, being fully aware that it usually takes a few months to get everything going smoothly. This Marriott was still a work in progress, mainly building wise, but the service was very good however.

Marriott’s Award Night Reimbursements To Hotels

When you stay at Marriott family of hotel as a Marriott Rewards member, the property pays certain percentage of the revenue to the program for the points that are issued to you. Then when you stay using points, the property (where you are burning your points) is reimbursed for the stay by the Marriott Rewards program.

People are often very curious, how much are the properties reimbursed for the award stays? The answer most of the time is, very little.

JW Marriott Marquis Dubai – Review of My Brief Stay

Last month I spent half day at this property. I had a very early morning flight out on Emirates and decided to check out this brand new Marriott property that hadn’t had its grand opening at the time.

The hotel will have two towers once it is completely ready. Only one tower is operational right now. The second tower is expected to open sometime in 2014.

Top Hotel Promotions For March (2013)

It is somewhat difficult to get super excited about any of the hotel promotions that the hotel chains are having right now. I guess that the business must be too good? Here’s my pick of top five:

1. Hyatt Gold Passport’s More Possibilities promotion for 3000 bonus points for every three nights

Marriott Teams Up With IKEA To Launch MOXY Budget Hotels In Europe

Last year, I wrote about the IKEA budget design hotels that were going to pop up all over Europe. Now, Marriott has apparently teamed up with IKEA’s real estate arm and will launch these under new budget conscious MOXY Hotels brand in Europe.

Marriott is scheduled to open first MOXY hotel in Milan sometime in early 2014. London, Berlin and Frankfurt should follow shortly thereafter. These hotels have 150 to 300 rooms each. You will earn Marriott Rewards points for staying at MOXY Hotels.

March (2013) Hotel Promotions Update

Hyatt finally has their first promo of 2013 up and running. Wyndham also has their targeted offer for double points. Overall, there really aren’t any “killer” hotel promotions right now.

You can get cash back for most of your hotel bookings and you can read more about it here: Cashback for Your Hotel and Travel Bookings.

If I have missed any hotel points or rate promotions, just leave a message below or send me an email to

Hotel Loyalty Programs Telephone Customer Service

Friend of mine commented yesterday about the horrible service that he had received from Hyatt’s Gold Passport “Diamond” line and I thought that this would be a perfect article.

CNBC Original: Behind The Closed Doors At Marriott

You can normally catch this CNBC Marriott special over the weekends when they are running more lifestyle programming. I have already seen it twice and, if you are interested in about how the hotels operate, it is definitely worth spending an hour.

CNBC has quite a few tidbits and videos about this show available on their website and you can access them here.

What Is The Most Rewarding Hotel Loyalty Program?

Last year, I wrote articles about Pros and Cons of Hilton, Hyatt, InterContinental Hotels Group/Priority Club, Marriott and Starwood Preferred Guest that the readers of LoyaltyLobby appreciated a lot. If you haven’t checked them out yet, you should. I also summarized the Pros and Cons of these five programs in one post.

Now, I am trying to tackle the issue of how rewarding these programs really are in terms of “free” nights. Of course, there is no really such a thing as a “free” night. Hotels pay for the loyalty points that are issued to you and hotels where you use them get reimbursed for the stay.

“Upcoming Changes to the Marriott Rewards Program”-Email From Marriott Rewards

The other day, I wrote about the changes coming to the Marriott Rewards program in May this year. There are more than 1300 properties moving up in award category and about 50 going down. You can find my article about this change here.

Nnow, Marriott has realized how serious this devaluation is and has sent out an email with the headline “Upcoming Changes to the Marriott Rewards Program”.

Disabling Annoying Pop Ups & Unders

RoomKey is a hotel booking service backed and, at least partially, owned by Choice, Hilton, Hyatt, IHG, Marriott and Wyndham. The idea behind the service is to try get consumers to book more directly with the hotels own websites over OTA’s like Expedia and

You don’t see adverts for RoomKey anywhere, but if you access any of these hotel websites, you are likely going to see a pop ups and pop unders for the website. I don’t mind seeing it once, but especially with Marriott’s website it keeps opening RoomKey pop unders every time I am trying to make a booking or search for the price.

Marriott Hotels Changing In Award Categories In 2013 And New Category 9 Hotels

Marriott Reward just released a list of hotels that are changing 2013 in award categories. There are 46 hotels moving down by one award category and 1311 hotels moving up by a category. Only one property jumped two categories (Renaissance Barcelona Hotel) from 5 to 7.

Marriott is also introducing a new category 9 that requires 45000 reward points per night. Marriott made this announcement on their online community that you can access here

You can book using old award levels through May 15, 2013. The new award categories are in effect from May 16, 2013.

You can check all the other promotions that these chains are offering by clicking the Hotel promotions tab and choosing your preferred chain. I have some other program related information listed there as well.

February (2013) Hotel Promotions Update

It is starting to get busy in 2013. All major hotel chains besides Wyndham and Hyatt have promotions going on this month. Ritz-Carlton Rewards don’t have anything for Ritz-Carlton, but you can always switch your account to Marriott Rewards and take advantage of Marriott promotions.

You can get cash back for most of your hotel bookings and you can read more about it here: Cashback for Your Hotel and Travel Bookings.
