Marriott was late coming up with coronavirus response back in March (read more here, here, here and here) and was last of the significant chains extending member tiers through 2022, which Sebastian already covered (read more here).

Marriott has sent out an email to most Bonvoy members today signed by the CEO Mr. Arnde Sorenson that we have on its entirety below.

Last But Not Least: Marriott Bonvoy Extends Elite Status Levels Through February 2022

Long awaited, Marriott just sent out an email from their CEO Arne Sorenson announcing a range of new COVID-19 guest policies including an extension of the members Bonvoy Elite levels earned in 2019 until February 2022.

Points expiration will also be paused in order to allow members irrespective of status to use their balances without any loss in this uncertain period.

Marriott Rewards had a long tradition of extending member statuses based on some sort of rolling count, even when nights dropped below the official qualification criteria in any given year.

Marriott has updated its coronavirus (COVID-19) reservation policies as of April 6, 2020, that waives all cancellation fees and refunds prepayments.

Marriott Bonvoy has operated Insiders-website/forum/blog for years where members can discuss their experiences, promotions, and post reviews of their stays.

Marriott this week decided to pull the plug and gave one-day advance notice that the website would become read-only and deleted on July 1, 2020.

Marriott Updates COVID-19 Cancellation Policy (March 30, 2020)

Marriott has updated coronavirus (COVID-19) reservation policies that waive all cancellation fees and refunds prepayments for all existing reservations with any arrival date if done 24 hours before the scheduled arrival or by June 30, 2020.

Reservations made between March 13 – June 30, 2020, for any arrival date, can also be canceled without penalties for up to 24 hours before the scheduled arrival. Marriott will also waive points expiration, and extends Suite Night Awards and certificates.

Marriott today sent out 5.2 million emails to guests whose account information with the hotel company was exposed to an unrelated third party.

Records of these estimated 5.2 million guests had been accessed using two employee credentials from a franchised property (unclear which hotel and where).

Marriott commented on a recent call or news release that brand standards that properties are required to adhere, and could be fined if not, have been suspended due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Marriott Bonvoy finally downgraded member statuses based on the 2019 activity week ago (read more here), although the status officially run out by the end of January.

The timing was extremely unfortunate as the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic was rapidly expanding and had resulted in hundreds of hotels closed, millions of members in lockdown, and employees furloughed.

New York Marriott Marquis First Responders Rate

Hertz is offering free car rentals for healthcare sector employees in the New York City (read more here), and now New York Marriott Marquis Hotel has discounted rates for First Responders.

It is unclear for how long this rate plan is available and the exact T&Cs, as I was unable to pull them up.

Marriott Bonvoy Suspends Personalized Ambassador Service

Marriott inherited a well-liked Ambassador program from Starwood Preferred Guest. Despite fears it would go away, they decided to add a spend minimum and re-launch it as a separate status level within Bonvoy (there are invitation-only Cobalt and Ambassador 5-Star levels).

The purpose of the Ambassador program was to provide personalized service through account-specific ambassadors that were a one-stop-shop for everything Marriott related from reservations to dealing with property level requests. It seems that account specific Ambassadors are gone based on an email that Marriott sent out.
