United Leadership To Employees: Cuts Are On Their Way

Most US airlines and the government came into an agreement about a $25B bailout this week (read more here) that partially covers keeping staff employed (no pink slips or furloughs) through September 30, 2020.

United expects to operate roughly 10% of its planned schedule for May and June. The passenger demand has collapsed even further – approximately 97% due to lockdowns, travel restrictions, and bans in place.

United Airlines MileagePlus Buy Miles Mystery Bonus Sale Through April 24, 2020

United Airlines has launched a new MileagePlus Mystery Bonus sale that is valid through April 24, 2020. You can check your bonus or discount offer on United’s website here.

United Airlines has promotions every month for buying miles, but they all max out at a 100% bonus or a 50% discount (the same offer because United usually limits the number of miles one can purchase per year, including any possible bonuses to 175K).

US Airlines Airlines Selling Miles In Advance To Banks


Wall Street Journal was reporting on Monday that both United Airlines and Delta Air Lines were considering repeating what they did back in the 2000s while going through multiple bankruptcy reorganizations.

United is in negotiating with its credit card partner JPMorgan Chase while Delta is planning to get cash from American Express for selling miles in advance.

United Airlines Faces Class Action Lawsuit Due To Illegally Denied Refunds


Many airlines have been very deceitful, if not engaged in fraudulent activity, with customer tickets when they have canceled or significantly changed flight times, implying that passengers are only eligible for vouchers or reschedule flights instead of refunds. .

DOT made very clear to airlines that they need to provide PROMPT REFUNDS for flights to/from/via the United States (read more here), and European Union also reiterated that refunds per EC 261/2004 are in force too (read more here).

United Airlines Mileage Extends Member Tiers By 12 Months + Most Subscriptions By 6


United Airlines on Sunday decided to follow Delta and extend all MileagePlus member tiers by 12 months, not including the Global Services, and most paid subscriptions by 6.

The airline has also lowered Premier Qualifying Poing (PQP) requirements by 50% for those who qualify in 2020.

United Airlines Reinstates Some International Services Through May 2020

United Airlines yesterday announced (read more here) that it would end all international services sans some Mexico and Japan flights.

Now the airline has decided to reinstate flights to Sydney, Sao Paulo, Frankfurt, London, and Tel Aviv through May 2020 and continue flying to select destinations until March 27.

United Reduces Its International Schedules By 95%

United Airlines is in the process of suspending most of its international services, including all flights to Europe, Canada, and Latin America except Mexico.

The airline is ending most Pacific flying, including services to Australia. Japan is not mentioned, so some flights there should continue. The international schedule is available on United’s website on Sunday.

United Airlines MileagePlus Premier Status Match Challenge For 2020 (Longer Qualification Period)

United Airlines has revised its MileagePlus Premier Status match that comes with a challenge for 2020.

The status from this challenge is valid through January 31, 2021, if earned before June 30. Those that earn the status on or after July 1 will have it through January 2022.

United Not Planning Coronavirus Related Waivers For Elite Members


United Airlines sent out an email late Saturday (US time) for MileagePlus elite members telling them that there are no waivers, at least not for now, in 2020 due to the current coronavirus outbreak.

Many businesses have significantly curtailed travel, and conferences and events have been canceled or made virtual. United has also trimmed its flight activity by 10% to 20% due to a lack of bookings.

United Airlines Increases Baggage Fee To $35 For The First Bag Effective March 6, 2020

United Airlines is at it again to siphon off even more money from those poor souls who book a ticket without baggage allowance but learn at check-in that they need to check one: Fees are going up!

The baggage fee for domestic United passengers will go up by $5 effective March 6th and end up being a whopping US$35 total but there is a way around the price increase.
