Global Hotel Alliance March Flash Sale Of Up To 50% Off

GHA just sent out an email about their March three day flash sale that is likely to end on Wednesday. You can get discounts between 20% to 50% at participating properties. The promotion code of this offer is GHAFLASH0313 and you can access the website here.

Last time there was a pricing mistake at participating property in Maldives that doesn’t seem to be on the list this time around. Maybe they received enough bookings?

You can access the list of Point Breaks hotels that you can find also below by going here.

SAS Going All Economy On Short Haul

SAS, the troubled Scandinavian airline, is going to scrap the business class from all of its intra-European flights starting on June 9 this year. You can read more about this change in Danish here.

SAS is going to introduce Economy Plus service that is identical to current Economy Extra service on SAS. You really want to avoid deeply discount economy on SAS as it comes with ZERO on-board services besides water or coffee/tea.

Last Call For Hilton Awards At Old Rates (Use Them Now Or Regret Rest Of Your Life)

Hilton HHonors drop a bomb last month by introducing new hotel award categories. You have until 12:01 CMT on March 28 to book under the current award categories & rates.

If you have accustomed to use your Hilton points for aspirational awards such as Conrad Maldives, you are really getting “screwed” by this change. There is really no polite way of saying this. The number of points required for awards often doubles.

US Airways Club Membership Offer – 5000 Premier Qualifying Miles

Have Hotel And Airline Programs Become Too Complicated?

When I was replying to the comments that readers of LoyaltyLobby had left and emails that I had received over the weekend, I started to think that maybe these programs have become overly complicated and almost impossible to understand by reading the terms and conditions.

(Terms and conditions of SPG program. 16 pages and more than 8000 words)

Have program become too complicated? Leave your opinions/comments below.

Here are two examples:

Priority Club Promo For 5000 Bonus Points For Two Night Weekend Stay

Priority Club has a a new promotion for 5000 bonus points for a two night weekend stay that can be earned at least once. The promotional code for this offer is 7637.

The two night weekend stay is defined as Friday and Saturday or Saturday and Sunday nights. The stay can be worldwide. It is unclear, however, if this offer is valid for Priority Club accounts that address is outside of the United States. You can register for this promotion here.

Make Sure To Collect Cash Back For Your Accor Hotel Stays

Accor tends to have very high cash back rates for bookings made on its own website if you click through one of the affiliate sites. The rates are similar to what I have collected out of my Priority Club stays. I have previously written a general article about getting cash back for all of your travel bookings that you can access here.

Accor wants to drive booking into its own websites instead of people booking trough services like or Expedia. The good way to encourage this is to offer attractive cash back rates to incentivize more direct bookings.

New Priority Club Point Breaks Out This Week

The previous round of Point Breaks is expiring on March 31, 2013. Priority Club usually releases a new list approximately a week before the previous one expires. We should see a new list before the end of the week.

As always, we should have the new list up once it is released by Priority Club, but not yet fully available on their website. If there are really hot properties on the list, the most desirable dates tend to get booked fast.

Word Of Warning About Priority Club Award Night Changes & Deposited “Goodwill” Points

The way Priority Club handles award category changes is truly a huge mess. Other chains release a list of properties that move up/down and you have weeks or couple of months to book at the old rates before the new ones take effect.

Priority Club New Award Categories

This is not, however, the way Priority Club works. You need to book using the new rates and Priority Club deposits points to your account to cover the difference between the new and the old rate.

Kimpton InTouch Inner Circle Program Change

LoyaltyLobby reader forwarded me an email that they had received from Kimpton about a change to their InTouch program’s Inner Circle elite level when it comes to status matched guests.

Status matched Inner Circle members are no longer eligible for a free night benefit at new hotels BEFORE spending and crediting at least 3 eligible stays towards the program. I think that the email above is done in a very frank way “we want you to have your cake and eat it too, but in fairness we ask few crumbs thrown our way as well”. I don’t think that this requirement is onerous considering that they continue to match elite status that InTouch members have with other chains.

Country Inns & Suites Getting A Facelift

While we are waiting for the Club Carlson’s announcement about their next promotion, it is good time to have a look at the Country Inns & Suites that are going to get a facelift to attract younger clientele. There was a piece about this new development on the USA Today that you can access here.

Carlson hotels has close to 500 Country Inns & Suites and most of them are in North America. I have never set my foot inside this Carlson brand, but I have seen few of them outside in the United States.

Virgin Atlantic Not Joining (For Now) SkyTeam

Delta is in the process of buying 49% of the Virgin Atlantic from Singapore Airlines and this deal is expected to close later this year.

When this announcement was done back in December, it was expected that the airline would also shortly join the SkyTeam alliance. You can read more about this on Bloomberg article that you can access here.
