Mosquito Bites Or Bed Bug Buffet?

First of all, neither bed bug nor mosquito bites are lethal, however annoying they are. Mosquitoes can spread diseases such as yellow fever, but bed bugs are just harmless blood suckers.

Last night, I had a nap early in the evening, as I couldn’t sleep too well the night before. Went to the hotel gym around 9PM and was back in after 11PM. I had a friend staying in the same hotel and decided to go and check out his suite. I started to feel itchy on my right arm and was surprised to see a lot of bite marks, once I looked at the arm in the mirror.

Priority Club & Ambassador Display Confusion At InterContinental Hotel

Priority Club vs Ambassador (Royal too) is somewhat confusing concept at InterContinental hotels and they are not always making it any easier with displays.

I have just stayed at an InterContinental hotel that didn’t have Ambassador/Royal Ambassador check in desk, but did have one for Priority Club Rewards. Even at the guest relations desk, there was no mention of Ambassadors but Priority Club sign was visibly on.

Virgin Atlantic Unveils Little Red

British Airways was required to give away some Heathrow slots that were to be used for domestic UK routes for its purchase of BMI to be approved. Virgin Atlantic won these and is now starting its domestic UK operations.

Virgin Atlantic has made a three year deal with Irish carrier Air Lingus to wet lease four aircraft with crews. These aircraft will be entirely in Virgin Atlantic livery and up to Virgin’s service standards.

Qatar & SriLankan Slowly Incorporated To Oneworld

Both Qatar Airways and SriLankan Airlines are expected to join the Oneworld alliance sometime in the late 2013/early 2014. The joining dates for both of the airlines have not been confirmed yet.

Now, you can, however, start using these two airlines on Oneworld alliance’s Global Explorer fares. At the same time, the gulf carrier, Gulf Air has withdrawn its participation on these fares. Gulf Air has never been member elect or future member of the alliance. You can read the press release about this announcement here.

Global Hotel Alliance Flash Sale Of Up To 40% Off

GHA just sent out an email about their February (?) 3 day flash sale that is likely to end tomorrow on Saturday. You can get discounts of up to 40% at participating properties. You can access this sale here.

Some of the discount amounts didn’t appear to be that exciting. The Anantara property in Bangkok, however, was offering discounts of up to 40% and the price of a two bedroom suite was rather reasonable.

EU Court Ruling On Connecting Flight Delays EC 261/2004

EU court has now rules that the EC 261/2004 compensation applies, if your flight was delayed that made you to miss your connecting flight and to arrive to your final destinations more than three hours late. There is a good piece about this on Bloomberg.

This has been the intention of the EC 261/2004 legislation, but airlines had argued that it was not and weren’t paying compensation. Now, the EU court has rules that as long as you arrive to your final destination more than 3 hours later, the compensation per this rule applies. You can read the entire ruling here.

My SPG Platinum Ambassador Downgrade

SPG extended the Ambassador service to Platinum members that had more than 100 nights within a calendar year starting in 2012 and made the program official. Due to good promotions that SPG had in 2011, I had more than 100 nights with them during that year. You can read my take about this program from 2012, when it was introduced here.

In 2012, the SPG promos quite frankly were inferior and I didn’t even have 50 nights with them, but had more than the minimum number of stays required to qualify for Platinum and, thus, received the above email yesterday.

Reminder To Apply Expiring Hyatt Gold Passport Diamond Suite Upgrades Today

The complimentary Hyatt Gold Passport suite upgrade electronic vouchers that were issued based on qualifying to Diamond status in 2011 are expiring today (February 28). You cannot extend the expiry of these, but you can apply them for future reservations as long as there is upgrade availability using these certificates.

Some properties have good availability using these certs while some don’t. Hyatt doesn’t reimburse properties for suite upgrade voucher usage, so properties have limited suite upgrade availability.

Fairmont President’s Club’s Certificates Going Electronic & Extension Of 2012 Certs

Fairmont President’s Club issues certificates like room upgrades, suite upgrades, food vouchers etc. for their Platinum members. These are usually valid until the February the following year. The 2011 issued certificates were going to expire today (February 28), but Fairmont has (again) extended the validity of them by couple of weeks.

There were some reports on FlyerTalk that Fairmont had extended the validity of these certs to far further to some members. I dropped an email to FPC’s customer service yesterday and requested these to be extended all the way to the end of April. I will report here once I hear back from them, whether my wish was granted or not.

Air France-KLM Flying Blue Promo Awards (50% Discount) Are Out For March – April 2013

Air France and KLM’s Flying Blue program releases a list of promotional destinations every couple of months that are redeemable for half the usual number of miles. They just announced the latest list of destinations that are bookable from February 27 (earlier for Flying Blue elites) that you can access here.

Thing to note is that you can book these also as one way.  These are not only for originating from Europe as all the destinations are valid for both directions.  Awards allow the origin/destination in Europe to be in zones 1, 2, and 3, basically meaning that these awards are valid from/to anywhere in Europe.
