Marriott Renewing Gold/Platinum Status Without Meeting Qualification Requirements

Marriott has always renewed the Gold or Platinum status if you have stayed at Marriott properties a lot in the past and just have been in short on nights one year.

marriott-renew-gold

I used to stay at Marriott hotels a lot and had couple of years with around 130 nights. My total lifetime nights are just above 500 at the present. For the most part, I stopped at staying at Marriott hotels few years ago and Marriott continued renewing my Platinum status for couple of years and then finally downgraded me Gold last year.

Buy Priority Club Points & Earn Gold/Platinum Qualification Points

Priority Club made changes to what points count towards elite qualification on January 1, 2013. I wrote an article about this change back in December. Until the end of 2012, all the points earned from various bonuses and partner activities had continued to count toward the requirement of Gold or Platinum status.

Base points earned from Qualifying Rates paid for hotel stays, points collected from partner transactions, PCR Bonus Points Packages and Meeting Rewards are considered Elite Qualifying Points and counted towards membership elite status.

Priority Club used to count points purchased through their Points & Money reward option towards elite qualification but discontinued it.

More Boeing 787 Problems – All Planes Grounded

After the incident yesterday with the smoke on the ANA 787’s cockpit, the US authorities have decided to ground the 787 planes operated by United Airlines. European, Indian and Japanese authorities have all done the same decision. LAN has voluntarily grounded its three 787 planes.

It is interesting to see how long this grounding is going to last and if it will have an effect on future deliveries of 787 “Dreamliner” planes.

Delta – Oops Did It Again! Program Changes Posted on Delta.com & Then Removed

In March 2012, I wrote about coming changes to Delta’s SkyMile program. I was going to update the article at some point, but the deployment of the changes has been delayed by Delta many times.

delta-changes

UPDATE: We should learn more about these Delta changes at 9AM EST on Thursday unless there is last minute change in plans.

Now, Delta mistakenly or on purpose put up some program change information on Delta.com and shortly removed it. FlyerTalk member DLroads was able to copy/paste the information that Delta had changed and that now has been removed. There is a lively discussion on FlyerTalk about this forthcoming change and, if you are delta flier, you should certainly check it out.
