Travelocity Gives Up To Become A Skin Of Expedia

Travelocity is giving up and becomes just a skin of Expedia starting in sometime 2014. Expedia will start taking care of reservations, ticket issuance, customer service etc. on behalf of Travelocity that merely becomes a front end “brand”.

Travelocity admits that it has fallen behind on search capability in recent years and this deal with Expedia helps it to concentrate merely on “marketing and promotions” according to the CEO.

AA withdraw the campaign that was supposed to last until August 27 in few hours later. You can read more about this offer here.

American Airlines first gave very vague replies to members that tried to confirm that their registration for this promotion was accepted. AAdvantage was replying that the member was not part of the targeted audience and thus not eligible for it.

Update On June & July Etihad Guest Gold Status Matches (Some Success)

Etihad had status match campaigns both in June and July for instant Gold status for emailing them about the similar status you have with competing airlines. You can read my articles about these campaigns here and here. I also did an update (read more here) when one LoyaltyLobby reader got negative response from Etihad Guest.

Now, finally, there have been reports that Etihad has processed some of the June status matches, but definitely not in the FIFO (first in – first out) order that they promised. Etihad advertised that they would match the first 500 that would send them the required documentation.

IHG Rewards Club seems to be now sending twice monthly account statements and has some offers embedded to them. The latest one that arrived yesterday included an offer for 15% off some merchandise & gift card awards.

I just compared the price of these Mac items that IHG has on sale for 15% off and the prices that is selling them at and the value of IHG Rewards Club point is $0.0027. The value really is less than one third of a cent when used for merchandise.

Whine Wednesdays: Lying Airlines

The summer travel has been in full swing in the past couple of weeks. I have seen few travel wrecks on my personal Facebook stream caused by the airline flight delays and cancellations that the airlines have not taken care of property.

The airline in the case above had claimed that there were no other way from Barcelona to Honolulu than two days later. The passenger had not been offered or informed about his rights under the EC 261/2004.

Air Canada (Negative) Altitude Program Changes (Again!)

Air Canada slowly but steadily continues to devalue their elite program that was recently named Altitude (maybe in anticipation of “divorce” from Aimia’s Aeroplan that Air Canada spun off). Air Canada made the following announcement on August 19 and you can access it on Air Canada’s website here.
