My Opinion About The AA’s Fast Track Gold, Platinum & EXP Offer

Last week, AA decided to run a very good fast track offer that they advertised on LinkEdIn and some other social networks. The registration for this offer was supposed to last until August 27, but AA decided to end the fast track promotions few hours later.

I cannot fathom how AA could not have predicted that these offers that were not targeted in any shape of form would not get publicity beyond the intended audience?

Compensation Clinic: Canceled ANA Flight

LoyaltyLobby reader was set to fly on ANA flight from Yangon to Tokyo and then to United States. ANA canceled the RGN-NRT flight and neither Expedia who issued the ticket nor ANA informed the passenger about this.

The passenger had to book oneway RGN-NRT on another carrier, as ANA had no employees at the airport who could have rebooked him or resolved the issue.

Expedia (Canada) Class Action Lawsuit Over “Taxes & Fees”

LoyaltyLobby reader from forwarded me a copy of the email that he had received for being an Expedia customer about a class action lawsuit. According to the lawsuit Expedia had failed to disclose that “taxes & fees” were not just taxes and fees but included a profit element as well. You can access the website of this class action lawsuit here.

The Class Action alleges that Expedia Inc. breached its contracts with customers by, among other things, charging a Service Fee that contained a profit element and by failing to disclose that profit to customers.  The Class Action seeks a determination of whether Expedia Inc. had the contractual obligations alleged by the Class and, if so, if its conduct could amount to a breach of those obligations.

WSJ Piece About Merchandise Rewards Using Miles

There was a piece on the WSJ this week by Scott McCartney about using airline miles for merchandise rewards such as hotel nights or car rentals (you can access the article here). This is about the worst way that you can use your miles. Period.

The article is partially based on a study done by IdeaWorks about Best Value Rewards using airlines miles that you can access here.

Major Expedia Rewards Devaluation

Companies tend to send out the negative information out on Friday nights or on the eve of major holidays, so that members and media wouldn’t notice them and likely would just delete the email on Monday morning.

expedia-rewards-email-jpg

Expedia is no different. They sent out an email “Earn more and redeem faster, with Expedia Rewards” very late on Friday night that will negatively affect both the earning and redeeming side of the Expedia Rewards points. Last time Expedia devalued their program in late 2011.
